Comedy?

Does it come as a surprise to anyone else that the studio felt America is ready for a COMEDY on this topic already? It seems pretty risky to me since some of these kidnapped engineeers were beheaded not long ago.

Not saying the film won't be great. In fact, the writer must be amazing, I noticed he sold six other screenplays in the last year and half since writing THE LONGEST YARD...

I suppose that makes some sense.
But I can't help think that somewhere out there, someone (or group of someones) will be profoundly offended that anyone is finding humor in it this close to the event.

For example, we haven't seen any comedies about Sept. 11th in the trades, so how can a comedy about saving a kidnapped engineer about to be beheaded be any more appropriate.

It's not that I'm personally offended, it just would make me nervous if I were on the project that's all.

Joking aside, I'm really curious as to how the meetings for this project played out. I'm with santino on this one. I'm not personally offended, but I can see how others would be. Could it turn out to be as effective as MASH? Maybe. I have my doubts with The Rock on board. I'll say this, I'm often wrong, and if those "dumbo execs" can pull this off, I'll be the first to offer my congratulations. In the meantime, I'll try harder to reserve my judgment until a script comes out. Fair enough?

Just as an FYI, we've tracked down an update for the story. They aren't giving out much but they've either completely reworked the script OR they just stole the title from the other project.

Yes, something kooky is going on. I'm sorta like Jimmy Stewart in "The Man Who Knew Too Much." I made a very casual, off-the-cuff comment about what might be going on and wham... International Intrigue!!! ;)
