10 minutes in and I wanted to crawl down my own throat and drown in my bile.

30 minutes in and I almost did.

I know they were going for a certain style, but they really really lost something. I didn't care for the characters. Law and Paltrow had all the chemistry of a cold turd you find in a field and can kick it 20 feet without it breaking apart.

It was just terrible.

I liked it! I don't think it's a masterpiece or anything, but I found it good fun.

But I think 1) It's not for everybody (you probably need to have a love for the kitsch of those old sci-fi serials), and 2) Since so much of its appeal is in its visuals, it probably suffers greatly on the small screen.

3) You need to be baked.

It's quite possible 3) would help those having trouble with 1) and 2), yes.

It was horribly plotted, poorly thought out, and had no substance at all. Other than that, it sucked.

Loved the visuals, loved the retro sci-fi ... and the characters were charming (Ms. Paltrow) or my sickest leather girl-with-an-eyepatch-and-a-Zepplin fantasy (um ... Ms. Jolie)

And Jude Law sucked a lot less than in I (heart) Huckabees.

It could've had more of an EDGE to it, though. They could've done retro sci-fi viz WITHOUT buying into the retro story-telling/sexless lobotomy. (Hopefully King Kong won't fall into that trap)

Loved it visually when I saw it, but it's been eclipsed 100x (not 100%, just 100x) in my affections by SIN CITY.

I can't stand the fuzzy look of this picture. It looks absolutely terrible on my projector, just about the worst looking fim I have. I've seen 60's films that have a better image. It's just so distracting and just plain ugly to look at, and the fact they did that on purpose makes it all the more annoying.

I enjoyed it for what it was. The story was hardly captivating but the style made up for it.

I can't wait to see what Conran does with John Carter of Mars. A Princess of Mars was one of my favorite books growing up. Straight up old-school science fiction. It'll either be great or a complete disaster.

I loved it. For the same reason I loved The Rocketeer, The Shadow and the Indy trilogy. If you're out of touch with Hollywood's movie movies of yesteryear, don't love old-timey adventure, you're going to hate it. It's not a deep story with deep characters but the streamlined, art deco 30's comic book look was immersive and good fun. Only thing I couldn't stand about it was Angelina Jolie. Can't wait for John Carter of Mars

I wasn't crazy about The Shadow, but I loved The Rocketeer.

I watched approximately 12 minutes of sky captain. If I were indigo montoya, I would ask the six-fingered man for those minutes back before I stabbed him dead.

See I liked the Rocketeer, but not this, course that did have Jennifer Connelly in it:P

Celebrity stars acting in a retro cartoon world? The original cartoon short was interesting but lacked a good story. The feature needed a good story. This would have been much better if the science fiction had been taken from one of the pulp magazines of the 1930s, (for example, one of the "Doc Savage" stories), with actors who can do more than look "cute" in front of a blue screen. Stupid, with style, is still stupid, and that's what happened here.

I liked it. Wasn't too impressed with the writing, but I loved the look.

And I loved Rocketeer.

Of course, I also love manual typewriters, accordion music, and station wagons with wood on the side.

Fortean nailed it.

I watched it on the movie channel on my 36" tv. And now that I think about it, it wasn't widescreen either, so I suspect some of the exciting visuals were stretched beyond normal to get everything in... and just looked weird.

lol @ subject title

I didn't like how flat the film looked. Something about it....the world didn't have any depth and thus felt so fake. SIN CITY was shot on green screen and didn't have that problem.
