Besides the critics who were forced to watch this as part of their jobs, has anyone gotten through this on DVD without the aid of fast-forwarding or chapter skips??

I was able to do the first twenty minutes. It got to be too much after that. Skipped to the infamous b.j. scene to see what the big deal was, then turned it off.

Self-indulgent crap.

And how was Chloe Sevigney's... performance?

Guilty. And I saw the version before the director was forced to recut it. I spent the last half hour trying to swallow my own tongue in the hope I would black out.

I liked this movie. A lot. I thought it did a great job portraying/exploring the state of mind of its protagonist and an even better job explaining and redefining that state of mind (at the end).

Is it self-indulgent? I don't know. I don't think so. Then again, I like many of the films that receive that criticism on this board (Napoleon Dynamite, Garden State, Lost in Translation, Elephant, Dogville, Requiem For A Dream... hell, almost anything "indie"). Maybe I just don't see a certain type of "self-indulgent" as being a bad thing, where films are concerned.

Anyway, I say, "Kudos, Mr. Gallo." (And I'm probably one of the few who has expressed that sentiment about this film.)

The girl seems to know what she's doing....

Allow me to answer that for you: YES!

Saw it in the theater, expected to be bored until the final scene. I was completely bored and disappointed even with the BJ. Bad porn would've been better.

I was dragged to this by a former roommate. He loved it. I didn't like it much at all. He would always say that Vincent Gallo is the only influential director working today. I don't see what's influential in simply sticking your camera on the back of your truck and driving around the block to pick up a girl. And that part with the girl at the rest area or whatever made no sense at all.

Strangely, I enjoyed Gallo's short talk after the movie much more than the movie himself.

I just can't believe the guy got to bang Paris Hilton. Ugh. Not that I'm a fan of Paris at all, but still ... that kind of hookup should tear the universe apart.

That girl at the rest stop was supposed to be an ex-flame. She was played by Cheryl Tiegs.

And for the record, I'd rather bang Chloe than Paris. Although they both seem to know what to do to make me happy.

Unless the bj scene has arcing ropes of gism hitting chins I'm not interested.
