One week run in LA at one theater won't get me there. Maybe I'll catch it in January.

Anyone seen this yet? I've been dying to go, but haven't found time.

Maybe this weekend.

I saw a lengthy featurette about this movie on one of the evening Hollywood magazine shows with Anthony Hopkins.

Turns out it's more than a motorcycle speed run story. It's about this guy's life and his philosophy of living. And his influence on others before he arrives at the Bonneville Salt Flats to race his old Indian motorcycle.

It looks great...a very good rental. Off to see Syriana this weekend.

Hopkins is surely the most accomplished actor working today...is there any ethnicity beyond his range?

I am seriously miffed about the whole situation.

"Wide release" means "two hundred miles from where I live."

how is this going to be good? the trailer scares me a little bit simple because we are vested in him accomplishing his goals and we all hope that a indian in a speeding rocket across the salt mines envokes something in us that can only be summoned by the likes of lector.

will lector eat indians? i for one will pay to see an indian, eaten by lector, while speeding across salt mines in utah.

can't possible be good. sometimes the only people we insult is ourselves with these god forsaken posts about speculating on a movie's quality simply by watching a trailer about a man who is definately not an indian, or even remotely reminds me of one.

actually, the only thing i could think of when i saw anthony hopkins face warp to what must be one g-force, or maybe not, was an verging on old roger moore in moonracker when he miraculously got the one gadget, the wrist rocket, that would save him if a g-force simulated was rigged.

i think you go to a movie with expectations of an indian being eaten and what you get is a british guy, posing as an indian eater, is deplorable.

I would highly recommend you all go and see this film. Not only is it a beautifully shot true story, it's bloody funny and Anthony Hopkins certainly does a convincing New Zealand accent.

I saw it months ago here in New Zealand, in fact, I think it's still screening at some cinemas.

HA!

I finally got to see it.

Anthony Hopkins gives an absolute tour de force performance as the eccentric, speed-crazy old coot.

The story is a little light on conflict, but like the bike, eventually picks up steam until it's cruising along smartly. And it is indeed beautifully shot and has lots of funny moments.

I recommend it.

Additional information for trivia buffs:

In the movie, one of the supporting characters is a large, cigar-chomping fellow referred to as Rollie. This is Rollie Free, the first man to go faster than 150 on a motorcycle. He did it by stripping down to nothing but his helmet, trunks, and sneakers, and laying prone on his bike with his legs stretched out behind him:

The only indian in this movie is the motorcyle.

FIRST of all, the motorcycle is not the only indian in the movie.

And second of all, pay no attention to the link posted above. The current motorcycle branded "Indian" is owned by an English firm called Stellican International, who bought the name from the court-awarded prevevious owners of the name who were producing motorcycles called Indian in Gilroy, California. That particular company had nothing to do with the original Indian Motocycle (note the lack of an "r") Company from Springfield, Massachusetts.

See the movie, it's great.

Wonderful film. Will be buying the DVD very very soon.

Really a shame it didn't find more of an audience. Hopkins transformed himself into Burt Munro.
