View Full Version : I really hate to post this (AKA Brads revisited)

I've got so many damn fasteners in this office from buying the wrong, or not accepted, fastener that I could start my own office supply company. I understand the Acco #5 thing (which I have and use), but I've recently come into a new dilemma:

I've been asked by several groups to send them the first 10pp of a couple of scripts. I hadn't been asked this before. Assuming there is no such thing as the MincroBrad, or the Wee Little Sea Monkey-Size Brad, how does one bind a 10 pager? Staples, glue, tape, silly putty, snot, and that little dog-ear fold-and-tear thing are, I assume, out. Any advice?

Bonus question: Why won't people accept screw posts? I covet those things like a freak, but only because I think they're about the coolest thing around in fasteners. Is the brad rule put in place just to help readers toss out scripts that are presumably from novices?

I think the no-screw-fasteners thing is mostly for the convenience of those people who have to take the fasteners out so they can photocopy the script, then have to put them back when they're done.

For 10 pages, I would just slap a paper clip on there and call it good.

for ten pages I would paperclip or staple.

does anyone have a pic of how the brads look on the back of the script? such as the proper way be bend/fold etc...

Too bad they don't come with an instruction book.

Collectively:

Script... (2) #5 brads [#6 will do]
1st 10 pages... (1) staple
Treatment... (1) staple
Synopsis... (1) staple

I would think that a paper clip would be better than staples, for the same reason brads are better than screw fasteners; at some point, someone may have to take the pages apart to photocopy them.

A paperclip is far too likely to come lose, and then you've got loose pages floating about and that's never good.
Anyone in a photocopying position will have a staple remover that takes a second to use, and a stapler to re staple them afterwards.
IMHO.

For something that short, use a standard term-paper binder. It has lightweight cardboard or plastic covers and a metal clasp that fits through holes made with a standard three-hole punch.

I'd agree with zz9 and ComicBent:

Paper clips will come off; that's a promise. And it's awkward to read 10 pages clipped together without taking the clip off anyway.

And that means that whoever opens your envelope will have to immediately staple the pages together. He/she will think to him/herself while doing it that you were too lazy or inconsiderate or dumb to staple.

Staple 10 pages in the upper left hand corner. Or use the term paper binder with a clear plastic front, which will keep it clean and un-dog-eared, as well as together.

In either case, be sure to use a title page that indicates the contents are the first 10 pages.

I have mini-brads. :o

Lilliputian little deely-bobs for treatments and shorts and other smaller three-hole affairs (wash your brain out with soap).

Acco even makes brass washers for these small, brave brads.
(No. 1 for those playing at home -- yeah, I know you're thinking teensy washers are for wusses.)

I kid you not.
