This Courier New on MM sucks. It's too light. I need something that's darker for my final draft that I'll be sending out.

Anyone know where I can download one of the others? I tried the free font sites but they're not there.

Are you using MMS for Windows or Mac?

In Windows, you can set the darkness of the Courier New in the program options:
File-->Program Options, press the "Printing" button to the right.
Make sure the "Darken Courier New Font" is selected. You can then slide the amount of darkening by moving the slider to the right.

Whether or not it's the same for Mac, though, I don't know.

MM user here. When I installed Final Draft demo I noticed it came with a Courier Final Draft font. I made this MM's default font. Looks nicer than Courier New. Each to their own.

You can get the FD font by downloading the FD viewer, it installs the font on your computer.

Do a Goggle search for Corel's Courier 10BT and Hewlett Packard's Dark Courier.

MM comes with Courier Old and installs it on your computer when you install MM.

Courier10 BT: It is the BEST-LOOKING of the darker fonts. I recommend it highly, and I use no other Courier on a regular basis, though I keep a bunch of them on my system.

Hewlett-Packard's Dark Courier: Pretty good overall, but I do not like the "squared-off" look of the letters; it is too much like IBM's Selectric II Typewriter. It apparently also had some problems with certain printers. HP used to have this font on their website as a free download; then they pulled it (or hid it) a few years ago. They stated outright that it would not work with certain printers.

Courier Old: It is okay, but not great. It is not as crisp as I would want it to be; it has a slightly ragged look if you inspect it carefully (I often use a magnifying glass in examining fonts).

Get Courier10 BT and HP Dark Courier here:

http://www.neosoft.com/~bmiller/courier.htm (http://www.neosoft.com/%7Ebmiller/courier.htm)

(EDIT on 24 Jan 2006: I have tried this link several times over the last couple of days. It no longer works, though it worked reliably for several years. It is not just the ~bmiller link; the neosoft link itself does not work.)

I use the FD font but have DC and 10BT on my computer as well.

I use Final Draft's own font if I am using the Final Draft program. It keeps things simple, and I get the 6 lines/inch without having to use Very Tight to get something fairly close to that with other Couriers.

Yes, I am a font junkie. I confess this readily.

Anyone who examines their fonts through a magnifying glass MUST be a junkie! :)

Thanks for the link. I found the Courier Old font last night and it is indeed, "okay", but BT10 is the shiznit!

That link is still active. I just checked it. But send me an email if you have any problems.

I downloaded it, but where to I put the file, so I can access it while choosing the fonts? Any help would be much apprecited.

Thanks.

If you're using a PC:

Click on the "Start" button.
Select "Settings"
Select "Control Panel"
Select "Fonts" from the control panel window
From the "File" menu in the fonts window, select "Install New font"

Go to the font source - whatever folder you have it in, in whatever drive - once you've found it, it'll show in the "List of fonts" box.

Click "Select all" (or select what you want to install) and install.

If you're a Mac user - just the font files into the Fonts folder in the System folder. If you're using any kind of font management program, you might have to use that to install the fonts.

Don't forget to unzip the file first, then follow the above instuctions.

Oops. What Deus said.

What the others said.

What I usually do is unzip the file in a junk directory, then copy the font files over to Windows\Fonts. After copying to the \Fonts folder, you can trash the original stuff. However, I have an Archive folder where I keep copies of things like this in case I ever need them.

If the fonts do not now show up as available, go through the steps using Settings, etc., using the copies in Windows\Fonts.

Let us know if you have trouble installing the fonts.

This link, which Wildgrace supplied a while back, works. I did not actually download the font, but it appears to be Courier10 BT.

It is called Courier 10 Pitch BT (http://oldtype.8m.com/fonts.htm).

My harddrive died and I had to get a new one. Which means I had to find Courier BT 10 (http://www.alternativescience.com/courier10bt.htm) again. The older links appear to no longer work.

I've found a new link for as long as it lasts:

Actually, MMS's Courier (not Courier New, but MMS'ss proper font) is very good. Excellent. But you can only get in a PDF if you print to a PDF file using PDFCreator or some other similar software.

BTW, if I may ask, does anybody here by any whatsoever slight chance have Courier Ragged? :o

If anybody does, would you be kind to share? Here or by PM?
