It's one thing for Hollywood to remake good or successful movies. I see a trend developing where bad or medicore movies are now on the remake trail.

Who the hell wants to see a remake of THE STAR CHAMBER?

People who were born too late to know how bad or mediocre it was.

I understand Hollywood execs not wanting to take a chance on a new spec script. Obviously, they fear that if it doesn't fly with audiences, they will lose money.

I do not understand Hollywood execs taking chances on scripts that only did marginally well the first time. Where is the logic in that? If we go with Roscoe's theory, then they are banking on a younger audience not knowing what they are in for. If that's the case, then why not just produce some interesting spec scripts instead?

I can barely remember the "Star Chamber." I didn't see it in theaters but I think I caught it on Showtime once. I do remember that the term star chamber got used a lot in pop culture during that time.

Execs are banking on the fact that the concept (or even worse, the title) will sell itself to Gen Xers. These suits are afraid of losing their jobs. I've had friends tell me that an exec championed their scripts only to find that they got fired before the second draft. Unless you have some independent and open minded financiers lined up, the best thing to do is to take a comfortable, well known premise and put a new spin on it.

Roscoegino,

I truly believe we are witnessing the decline and fall of western civilization. There are so many examples of why: Automated phone systems that prevent tax-paying citizens from reaching the streets department; Fast-food employees so stupid or so language-challenged that no drive-thru order is ever filled correctly ...

Now you tell me that the people who run our very dream factory are so devoid of talent and ingenuity that they can squash quality writing in favor of spending millions on a film few wanted to see the first time around.

Since we have reached that point, what's the chance of us ever turning it around?:(

I agree big time. I have saw the decline of comedy in recent years that it is a shame. Hollywoord execs need to give the little guy/gal a chance. My brother and I wrote a comedy script and have been looking for a buyer. We have seen most comedy movies made in the last 18 years or so and some have been pretty funny like Hotshots part 1 and 2. We decided to check out Soulpane and Johnson Family Vacation when they came out and the move house was nearly empty for both movies. After watching Soulplane for 30 minutes we figured out why very few paid to see it. It was terrible and mad us wonder how this movie made it past the janitor. We survived about 40 minutes of Johnson Family Vacation before we decided to leave. If Hollyworrd would give so-called newbies a chance I believe we would all see better movies in the future.
