As October has come around the corner and Halloween is not far off the calendar, I think this topic is rather appropriate (and, of course, potentially redundant). Naming as many titles as you want and for each giving a specific reason why you chose them, what are your favorite horror films?

Scared Stiff (1953)

The last shot still gives me shudders

The Changeling with George C. Scott is one of the few that really haunted me after I saw it. I still get the chills when I watch it and hear the pipes banging.

Alien is another that stayed with me long after I saw it.

The Exorcist is easily one of the most terrifying movies ever made that still gives me chills.

I really dislike horror flicks, nonetheless, I've seen a couple with friends (I
need new friends). The original Halloween I saw when it was released (yes,
that ages me), saw it as a teenager on Halloween night no less - won't do
that again.

What made the movie tolerable were the three drunks sitting behind us. They
were scared out of their minds, and, well, drunk out of their minds. Was a funny
combination. The movie - good Lord have mercy.

I also that that demon-possessed movie with Linda Blair. This is why we go
to church people.

Carpenter's The Thing and RKO's The Thing From Another World would have to be high up on my list. Same story source, very different takes.

Quatermass II and Quatermass and the Pit had some v. chilling moments.

Was anyone else scared stiff of the robot in The Day The Earth Stood Still? I know I memorized the three all-important words to turn him away.

I had nightmares for a week afterward.

How about...

Them

Little Shop of Horrors (the Roger Corman version and the musical - yes, I know, but I LOVED "Mean Green Mama From Outer Space" and Steve Martin as the savage dentist and so all was forgiven for those two things)

Dracula (Bela Lugosi version and John Badham's version, with Frank Langella)

Jurassic Park

Duel (not really horror, but for years afterward, every time I saw a tanker truck coming up behind me I'd break out in a cold sweat)

Psycho

Klaatu borada nikto (scifi geek, me)

I liked the original Bodysnatchers better than the remake.

Also, just about any Twilight Zone/Outer Limits episode. (I don't remember any Night Gallery at all!)

Army of Darkness, maybe?

"Sorry, Wrong Number" -- although it's not in the horror genre, it scared me enough to avoid ever getting involved with dashingly handsome but unbelieveably poor guys.

In the realm of real horror: I think it was called "Night of the Trifids," about these killer vines. Scary!

A really good film that I have enjoyed was the Amityville Horror remake. We had the cinima pretty much to ourselves. Which probably made it easier to understand as no one was screaming/answering their phones/making out/eating popcorn or even throwing pop corn behind me.

Another good film I like a great deal is SAW. I really liked the concept. It could have been better but the man in that creepy mask was really well put together.

I'm most likely alone here, but I really liked "In The Mouth Of Madness", I saw it in the theater and loved it but when it was shrunk down to fit on TV it lost a lot... but I found a wide screen DVD of it a few years back and still think it's really good... but I’m a Lovecraft dork.
