Imagine that a character is providing an account to another character about an incident – and you’d like to show this in script format – how might you write this into the script if you’d like the words of the character to be consistent i.e. heard over the images of the account, as one character is telling another?

Would this be an intercut? I hope I’m being clear. To clarify, visuals are matching the story being told by one character – with his/her voice included in the “visual account” of the incident – and we move back and forth between the two characters speaking and a visual account of the incident in question.

Thanks.

Sure, you could intercut. Or just use the sluglines. Or mini-slugs. I'd probably just go with,

INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY

HARRY
And she was asleep?

JOE
Yeah...

INT. SUSAN'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Susan lies asleep. Beautiful, soft and vulnerable.

A breeze moves the curtains.

Joe climbs in through the open window.

JOE (V.O.)
She looked so pretty, just lying
there...

HARRY (V.O.)
But you killed her anyway.

FLASH INSERT - Susan lies on her back, her throat cut, pillows soaked with blood.

INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY

JOE
No! I didn't touch her! I'd
never do that!

HARRY
Then I guess somebody else must
have broken into her house that
same night, huh?

INT. SUSAN'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Joe sits in a chair, watching Susan sleep.

JOE (V.O.)
I could have watched her all
night. I've never seen anyone
so pretty...

Joe hears something -- maybe from downstairs.

He goes to the window and climbs out.

INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY

JOE
Yeah. Maybe someone did.

HARRY
You wouldn't happen to know who,
would you?

JOE
I guess not.

...Shrug, maybe not.

Just a thought, watching something while being told exactly what's happening at the same time can be boring. Something to be avoided.
