The only 2 movies that deal with a scientist using humans as guinea pigs for his experiments that goes horribly wrong come to my mind are:

Jacob's ladder
Lawnmover man

Any more?

Dozens if not hundreds of older b-horror movies used this convention.

Are you sure about Jacob's Ladder? I thought he was a soldier in Vietnam in his last moments on the surgical table. It's been a long time since I've seen that movie.

Whistle:

yeah. JL was a very interesting movie. Probably the first one (that I have seen) with a twist at the end. The sub-plot revolves around a drug called Ladder. Following is taken from a user's comment at imdb.

"The Ladder – a drug designed to turn soldiers into killing machines. The drug was first tested on animals and Vietcong soldiers with incredible and scary results – Jacob's platoon was the first US test subjects. They turned mad and killed each other!"

I know JACOB'S LADDER is an older film, but maybe a spoiler warning next time?

"Guinea pigs?" Is that some kind of ethnic slur?

Never mind.

many thanks.

Hairy: Any specific titles that you would like to share?

Mac:
My apologizes for not including SPOILERS. However, there is nothing on this thread that would ruin the movie.

Captain:

the brain that wouldn't die
donovan's brain
dr. jekyll and mr. hyde
frankenstein
the island of dr. moreau (sort of)
the island of terror
the lady and the monster
man made monster

TIODM uses animals for scientific experiments. The rest do not have any kind of experiments that involves humans.

DARK CITY
PAYCHECK (by protag's consent)
ETERNAL SUNSHINE (by protag's consent)
EXTREME MEASURES

are a few more that come to mind.

The rest do not have any kind of experiments that involves humans.

really?

the brain that wouldn't die - psychotic surgeon does secretive, experimental work with limb transplants and tissue rejection drugs, much to the chagrin of his surgeon-father. when he crashes his car and his fiancee is decapitated, his research - far from complete - is put to the test. his focus then becomes finding an appropriate donor body to make his fiancee whole, while the current and failed experiments in his basement laboratory grow restless. (imdb)

donovan's brain - a scientist who keeps the brain of a ruthless dead millionaire alive in a tank. donovan (the brain) manages to impose his powerful will on the scientist, and uses him to murder his enemies. (imdb)

dr. jekyll and mr. hyde - dr. henry jekyll believes that there are two distinct sides to men - a good and an evil side. he believes that by separating the two man can become liberated. he succeeds in his experiments with chemicals to accomplish this and transforms into hyde to commit horrendous crimes. (imdb)

frankenstein - dr. frankenstein creates a creature from various human body parts.

the island of dr. moreau (sort of) - animals are experimented on to create human-like creatures. which is why i said "(sort of)."

the island of terror - you're correct. just scientific experiments but not with humans. misremembered that one.

the lady and the monster - a scientist preserves a brain. similar to donovan's brain.

man made monster - mad scientist turns a man into an electrically-controlled monster to do his bidding.

maybe they're not the kind of experiments you wanted, but, by any definition of "experiment," the brain that wouldn't die, dr. jekyll and mr. hyde, and man made monster all have human experimentation at their heart. the others have human brains kept alive to negative effect, animals turned into human-like creatures to negative effect, or dead people brought back to life to negative effect.

maybe you should be more specific in exactly what you want.

My favorite line from ESOTSM:

JOEL
Is there any risk of brain damage?

HOWARD
Well, technically speaking, the operation is brain damage, but on a par with a night of heavy drinking. Nothing you'll miss.

captain. You are correct. I should have been more specific. My apologizes. I am developing a story and seem to have hit a wall. I was hoping to find movies that would help the creative juice flowing. A sub-plot of my story involves a doctor who, in a remote location, experiments with a group of people hoping to create a perfect state of mind. One of the side effects is insanity:-). Some of his "patients" die while others go insane. He dies leaving behind his legacy. Several years later a group of yound people wander into this "village". They slowly realize what they are dealing with and have to find their way out before they either die or become a part of the "village of insanity". The story, or something similar, has probably been done before. Probably a B movie. The concept is a hybrid of ISLAND OF DR.MOREAU, LAWNMOVER MAN, DARK CITY, JACOB's LADDER etc. Hope this explains:-)

Try the entire works of Ray Bradbury. Or, come to think of it, The Truman Show.

THE SLEEP ROOM (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0138104/combined)

Tho not a very good film, the true story is about the patients at the Allen Memorial Institute, in Montreal, who were the victims of Dr. Ewen Cameron's experiments in brainwashing. Cameron was funded by the CIA, (for their MKULTRA program), and by the Canadian government.

There's a movie where a doctor called someone a "failed experiment" or something like that. Can't remember what it is, though.
