Nominate your candidates for most Over the Top movies. I'll start with Death Race 2000, giving credit to Randesq for jogging my memory with this one.

The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc
Halfway into the film I wondered if Luc Besson and some of the cast had started doing cocaine between takes.

Audition
"Audition" is Miike's most reserved and tempered film. If you want to see over-the-top, check out his other efforts like "Ichi The Killer" or "Visitor Q". You won't be the same again.

Pen, this thread is for a list of 'over the top' movies, not a list of your DVD collection.
Pen Dragon
10-14-2005, 06:54 PM
actually I do have six of them in my collection. I'll award anyone a free trip to dclary's if they succesfully name all six.
I'm glad VMF posted Over The Top within the first page. Otherwise, I was going to quit this board.
Pen,
How long have you had that list in your holster?
If I win the trip to DClary's, do I have to go?
Great OTT
Any Sam Fuller movie
Nicholas Ray - Johnny Guitar, Rebel Without A Cause
Douglas Sirk's work in the 50's
More Recent OTT
Boondock Saints (really not great)
Armageddon (really not great)

okay then. how about:
Saboteur
Dark Victory
Beetlejuice
Casualties of War
Big Lebowski
Jewel of the Nile
does dclary win a free trip to his own place if he wins?
Pen Dragon

dclary would never win.
And you only got 1 right
Ire,
I just rattled them all off the top of my head

Actually I just double-checked the list. I have eight.
Minority Report
Zorro the Gay Blade
Saboteur
Prince Valiant
Open Range
The Crimson Pirate
Pearl Harbor
Anchors Aweigh
Contest is null and void

I'll give it a shot, Pen (even though I have no interest in the prize ;) ).
The Green Berets
Arsenic and Old Lace
Pearl Harbor
The Fugitive
Saboteur
Dark Victory
And yes, I'm smart enough to know that by listing two of those listed by Kilt when he got only one correct means I couldn't possibly get all six. But see above, re the prize.
Edited to add: shlt! I just spent all this time playing the game, at precisely the moment you declare it null and void. Oh well. :(

The fact that you and Kilt both said Dark Victory means youre both just giving me the business right? Just some good natured joshing? I've no doubt it's in Lime's collection, but it sure as hell aint anywhere near mine

I think I got a similar score in your scrambled movie poster contest a year ago, lol.
The fact that you and Kilt both said Dark Victory means youre both just giving me the business right?
Black & white, Bogart, Ronnie Reagan, c'mon, hasn't it got all the hallmarks?

Bogie as an Irish stableboy. I've never recovered. At least Reagan had the good sense to play to type as an arrogant inebriated patrician *******
Dark Victory is hand's down easily the worst ****in' movie ever made

Nothing can hurt us now. What we have can't be destroyed. That's our victory - our victory over the dark. It is a victory because we're not afraid.
I think I'll have a large order of prognosis negative!

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back...over the top? Can absurd comedies with that many d!ck jokes, technically, be "over the top"?
As for Domino...I would say it was "over the top", but I enjoyed it. I guess a man having his arm "surgically" removed with a shotgun qualifies as "over the top". There were a lot of very funny parts and I didn't have a problem with character development or plot the way our local-yokel reviewers did.

In the theater I told a buddy, "If he spears that guy with the flag, I'm leaving." We had a good chuckle.
Then he went and speared that guy with the flag.
