Got a concert scene where I don't really want to show the fellow singing the whole dang song. Of course.

This is one scene taking place - oh three or four hours.
I'm just skipping along showing highlights and dialogues.

is a

LATER

whenever I skip along
appro??

A good way to handle this, and one that you see frequently, is to use minislugs within your master scene.

***
ANOTHER PART OF THE FLOOR - LATER

Some things happen here.

NEAR THE BAND - LATER

Some things happen.
***

In fact, the LATER is really not necessary. It only tips off the reader; it does not get translated to the audience.

That seems to be the easiest way to do it -

But is it the best?

In this scene you arent moving from one location to the other - In fact the shot would bascially be the same except that I'm saying we go with the fellow through maybe six seconds of his song and then move on to the end of it.

I agree with Comic 100%, but many do not use minislugs. I find it a much smoother read to use minis when moving around a single set, i.e. a large party or gathering, and sometimes even street action if it's tight.

Personally, I triple space between Headings, but only double with mini-slugs, which helps differientiate the fact you are within the same set. Just IMO and usage.

DAY and NIGHT do it for me, and it's only on the original Scene Heading.

Three or four hours -- that is one long song! I say just go the MONTAGE of shots - write what is important to SEE, name that song, write the action, then forget about it.

"Later" seems ok to use as a slugline during this really long song.

But your director will have other views...
