View Full Version : How excited should I be?

My agent has been dealing with a creative exec over at Electric-Entertainment for some time. He sent over my script, and the exec told him he liked it. The exec just told us last week that he is getting the script into the hands of their VP of Dev. He said once this is done, he is going to call us to take things further.

Should I be EXCITED, or not? The reason I asked is because if they weren't interested, they would've passed by now, but it seems they have taken a great interest in my project. Also, the script has been passed around in the company, and that's the reason why it's going to the VP.

Any one ever been in this situation?

Expect the worst but hope for the best.

Well done on it moving up the chain. Remember it's a long chain. But you are opening doors, that is the important thing even if nothing else happens.

Sounds like good news but don't let it occupy too much of your attention or it'll drive you crazy. Just let the process run and work on your next project. If you're in the area maybe you can parley this into a meeting of some sort -- getting past multiple people is always a good thing.

Yeah, I am in the area. I only live about 40 minutes north of L.A.

Take it as encouragement. You're doing something right. And despite what some people might say that does count for something.

Just don't crack open the champagne, yet. As ED says, it's a LONG chain, and, it's covered in grease.

Good luck.

P.S. Don't forget to start writing the next script.;)

It's a long chain, it's covered in grease, and at any prodco you are one of at least a hundred writers at this point or higher in the climb.

I am hard at work on my next script. I'm in the third act of the 1st draft, but still I can't shake the thoughts of -- what if Electric-Entertainment actually buys my script? My life will dramatically change almost over night... But yeah, I won't crack open the champange yet. Hey, I don't even drink. :)

Justwrite...be excited, it's very cool. Enjoy anything positive that comes your way. It keeps the machine going until the big one pops, that's all that matters.

Art is never finished, only abandoned.

Good luck.

Hey, I don't even drink. :)

Start drinking now so if you DO crack open the champagne at least you won't wake up face down and naked in the Kansas City Stockyards with a blowup doll from your celebration!

I've been down this road before...and each time something came along that soured the deal. It's always a great feeling to hear someone's responded favorably enough to your writing to send it up the corporate ladder but, to echo everyone else, try to keep a level head on your shoulders. You've jumped over the second hurdle successfully, but you still have another thousand to go before you reach the finish line (read: get the option / sale).

Keep us posted, and good luck!

The way I see it is -- hoist a drink or two, eat chocolate, do whatever you do to celebrate good things happening.

Enjoy the moment.

But don't spend money you don't have.

Thanks for the replies and advice. It is exciting and yeah, every bit of positivity in this endeavor deserves a pat on the back. Even if it is just a little pat.

So I guess I'll keep PRAYING that everything continues to work in my favor.
