FYI... the August 2001, now on stands, is devoted entirely to screenwriting. I have not had a chance to read through it carefully but there looks to be some interesting articles ranging from how to write query letters to tips on using Final Draft to Internet sites to check out (which includes ours). :)

Thanks, Will. I'll be sure to pick-up a copy.

You bet. And it seems a little more designed for beginning writers but still the "check list," reminders, examples, etc. seem helpful.

Will,

After reading this, I rushed to the bookstores. Since I didn't have bus fare, I ran 10 miles to the Barnes and Nobles. (Okay, that's a lie.)

I couldn't find the August 2001 issue. The latest I found was June 2001. I check three stores that carried Writer's Digest. Are you sure that's the correct title?

The complete "title" on the front page is:

Write what Hollywood wants!
Scriptwriting Secrets
Auguest 2001 www.writersdigest.com

And so on...

I'm looking at it as I type. It might not be on all newstands but LA has plenty it seems.

I looked through the magazine... I wonder how much Final Draft paid for that advertisement?

I mean, it's on the cover of the magazine, AND the back cover, AND it's the main article heading on the cover AND it's the longest article in the magazine.

I don't really have a point, it just seemed a little strange; or is that normal?

Yeah, I bought the issue (after searching long and hard for it) and found it a bit unsatisfying. The tips were so obvious and intermediate...

Does this mean that I am no longer a hack???

You really only become a hack later in life I think. After you've had a career and are then just taking a paycheck.

In this case I think you've just moved on from the basics. This magazine issue is not for folks who've been doing this for awhile really. But if you're just starting out it's not a bad resource to have. That's all.

Travis, if MM2000 wanted to sponser that article, they would have been on the front, the back, the main heading and would have been the longest article, too. It just depended on who RD could get to sponsor the article...what client a sales rep with RD could get a "yes" answer back the fastest, then the article is modified to fit that specific client.

And, since Final Draft knew writers would pick-up a copy, I'm sure that they paid a pretty penny to sponsor that article.
