"Cause Of Death"...a writer's guide to death, murder and forensic medicine.

Awesome book! Has a glossary worth the price itself ($17).

If you want to know specifics, I'll be happy to post them. This book is very detailed.

Examples: How To Tell Murder From Suicide; The Autopsy; The Emergency Room; Dangers From Insects; Sudden Death vs. Cronic Illness, etc.

The whole series is supposed to be pretty great. A good friend of mine uses all of them for her various thriller and detective scripts. (She's the one that introduced them to me.)

You can see a list of them in our Writing Reference Book section - www.scriptsales.com/Donedealstore3.html (http://www.scriptsales.com/Donedealstore3.html)

I happened to find a "autopsy for writers" website when I was reseaching an autopsy scene. It's at:

www.neosoft.com/~uthman/Autop.html (http://www.neosoft.com/~uthman/Autop.html)

and it has some very good information.

Thanks, Will...I've put a couple of those books on order through Joseph Beth.

And, Steve, thanks, but "ugh"--I've bookmarked the site for future reference.

CORNELL and STEVE!

The book is on its way and the site is a bull's eye.

My current novel/adaptation has an autopsy scene which is a key event - why couldn't a competent ME - medical examiner - find the cause of death? It's because . . . ?

Now, I can put the answer into words.

Thanks for the reference.

Five books in the HOWDUNIT series sit on my bookself, acquired over the years when I was writing privite eye stuff, and they've come in handy since then as well. They're not bad.

I used one - Deadly Doses: A Writer's Guide to Poisons - as an important prop in a mainstream/suspense novel.

The one I like least is Armed And Dangerous: A Writer's Guide to Weapons. I had to jump around too much to find out what I wanted. But I'd never part with any of them.
