I have to admit I was really annoyed when I heard about part 3

but then I saw the trailer (still in the making) last week and I have to say it does seem fresh, more that part 2 at least.

Tokyo is not weared out as other american cities, so the change of scenery and the fact that they deal with drifting should at least make it all entertaining (at some level)

i did think tokyo was a nice location...so drifting is real? i thought it was something made up jus for the movie.

Considering that the first two sucked balls, I will not see this.

And someone tell the kid from Sling Blade to lose the accent and he'll get better roles.

you mean you don't know drifting was in a way invented or at least perfected in japan and has now moved as competition to USA?

google it, you might be surprised :)

You mean the kid who has been in Jarhead, Friday Night Lights, Cold Mountain, etc... He doesn't seem to be doing to badly for a 23/24 year old. But yeah, the accent is a bit distracting.

I'm actually pretty interested in this one after seeing the trailer. I don't expect it to be great or anything but it looks like a fun movie. And actually I like the lead they have and his accent. I lived in Georgia for a year and one of my best friends has that exact same accent.

Yes, at least it's getting a bif of new air. I've been disappointed with the second one and I think that Diesel might have been worried about sequels.

Drifting isn't new. Or a new racing sport. What's new is the cars and locations. That's it.

And all this time I thought drifting was just refereing to when you get behind a car to reduce wind resistance.

You mean drafting ...

Freestyle skiing is to alpine racing what drifting is to auto racing. It's an stylish way of going through turns, shows fantastic car control, and is insanely popular in Japan. I've never really seen the point. I'd rather enter the turn on the precise line, hit the apex accelerating and launch into the straightway, pulling away from those drivers who missed the perfect line. But to each his own.

A fictional film about drifting is probably overdue. There are dozens if not hundreds of DTV "documentaries" about drifting.

Ahh I guess one letter really does make the difference! Yes that is exactly what I was thinking of.

Speaking of skiing, we need a movie about that! One that isn't targeted towards teenagers but of course inevitably it would be.

I'm not a fan of drifting. It looks really cool, but it's not too difficult to do. You can do it with your moms car- well, that's how I learned how to do it anyway.

there's been short track drift-style races for some time now.

Yes, that kid, who plays the same role due to that accent. He was great in Sling Blade.

I think it'd be better if there were snakes in the cars. Then I'd see it.

well, what can I say, I didn't see any of the drift docus and that's probably why I, (dare I say it?) actually enjoyed this film

of course there's no story, but everything else is a real eye candy
I had some drifting experts with me and even they were surprised at some of the action and how little CGI was present. Of course they figured out that producers hired real DK for the difficult scenes, so...

and... those japs really know how to paint cars :)

so, if you want some deep film about underground racing then skip this one. If you want exactly what this film offers in the title than buy that popcorn and enjoy the ride

We used to drift when I was younger - the big old V-8, rear wheel drive Detroit Iron used to drift great once you got the wheels going.

They do a nice drifting job with the general lee in the Dukes movie.

Drifting is real, but many of the bizarre stunts in the movie are not.

Kinda like snowboarding is real, but what Vin Diesel did with it in XXX was not. :rolling:

Speaking of Vin. Seems like they'd want to keep his cameo "hush hush" to surprise the kiddies who go and see this crap. But he's all over the commercials.
His grill keeps me further away from it.

The first two didn't entertain me much. This one did. It's exactly what I expected from an FntF, only MUCH more visually interesting. Drifting is very cool to watch. Plus, Sung Kang is yummy and had some good lines.

Drifting is, perhaps, the only motorsport *more* boring than left-turn-only lap racing. At least with NASCAR there's strategy with fuel and tire consumption, team bumping and rubbing, etc.

Drifting is entirely a single trick pony: how well can you skid through a turn?

I know a lot of people who'd disagree with you here.

I could be WAY more wrong.

Besides, from Wiki:

Drifting competitions are judged based not on the time it takes to complete a course, but on line, angle, speed, and show factor. Line involves taking the correct line, which is usually announced beforehand by judges. Angle is the angle of a car in a drift, the more the better. Speed is the speed entering a turn, the speed through a turn, and the speed exiting the turn; faster is better. The show factor is based on multiple things, such as the amount of smoke, how close the car is from the wall, and the crowd's reaction. It is based on how "cool" everything looks.

In other words, the entire race is dependent on how well you can skid through turns. Exactly what I said.

sure and Newton's third law is boring as well, but then apply it to star wars movies and what do you get

FF showed how drifting could be applied. drifting through garage at high speed or just racing through the streets is a lot more exciting to me than than monotone oval racing. Measuring gas consumption is something you wanna compare with dirfting? cmon.

I have to say, when the original came out I didn't get what everyone was so excited about. Then one night I woke up at 3am and couldn't go back to sleep and nothing was on cable so I ordered the movie on cable and I have to say was surprised I really enjoyed it....and got the dvd afterward. I don't know why, but I saw the second one and didn't care for it. I have no interest in seeing this one, doesn't look interesting to me. My question though is for anyone that's seen it (or knows), does Vin have a cameo? I've seen a preview and he's in it. Just wonderin.....:rolling:

I used to drift in my step-dad's pickup when there was a foot of snow on the road. Spin the wheel one way, then the other, then whammo... Drifting sideways straight down the centre of the road.

you probably liked first one because it was Point Break on wheels
third one has a cameo
