If you haven't seen this brazilian movie, do so.

I found the fractured narrative to be effective at building the story. The acting was excellent and I felt that I could have followed the movie without the benifits of subtitles.

and excellent movie about poverty, violence, and drugs.

Yeah, incredibly raw in its depiction of emotion and the lack of it in some of the characters.

Brilliant piece of filmmaking. Heads and shoulders above the director's follow-up, THE CONSTANT GARDENER....

Agree absolutely. It's very powerful, it puts you in what seems like a whole different world. Gritty, naked violence of poverty and despair, very great. What everyone's saying: see it.

I saw it as part of a double feature with "Kill Bill". Perfect contrast of how the same level of extreme violence can be absolutely essential and meaningful or absolutely gratituitous and pointless.

I agree, City of God is one of my all-time favorite movies.

City of God was great... i don't see what was OScar worthy about 'The Constant Gradner' though. It must be the controversial = oscar mentality.

This is in my top ten films of all time. Brilliant film. Fernando Meirelles is a genius.

Not bad for a former TV commerical director, huh?

There's now a tv series spin off of the movie.

and loved the girl.Well, he made The Constant Gardener and is working on a script about the perils of globalization.

As to the actors, dunno. Probably stars in Brazil now.
