I'm a screenwriter, but have started doing some digital shorts. Now I'd like to get list of where to submit for contests as well as who hires directors for commercials and tv. I've posted in film forums but get zero response, so I'd like to try here on done deal, where I've fared much better. thanks!

PS are there any good filming, digital boards that perhaps I'm not aware of thanks! (tried creative cow, filmatking.net, filmaking.com, and 2 pop, with dismal results)

Or you can try out my new forum for filmmakers -- www.wondervisionpictures.com (http://www.wondervisionpictures.com)

Granted, it's still new, but I'm trying to make it the best forum out there for filmmakers -- and new users are always welcome!

There's a couple of very knowlegable people on there right now who I'm sure will be glad to help.

Kevs...

the way to become a commercial director is to shoot spec spots and shorts to build a spec reel.

then, you send that spec reel to just about any production company that will look at it.

there are a ton of production companies in LA that are primarily commercial-based.

and everyone's got one. Michael bay has one called The Institute that I'm working with soon.

Some big dogs in the biz are MJZ, Form, Harvest, Quixote,.....the list is endless.

But surfing around the web, you'll dig 'em all up. Just go to a sight like ecreativesearch.com and search for commercials you like, then look what the prodco was that handled the director on the project.

Then, like in film, query them to see if you can send your spec reel.

good luck.
it's a very competitive business.

Kevs, on withoutabox.com they have a massive festival database. You can create a profile for your film and can submit to the festivals via their site. It's free for filmmakers.

There's a fantastic message board over there as well.

Good luck!

I would suggest www.withoutabox.com to get updates on festivals.
I would also go to the Sundance and Turner sites to view award winning
film shorts.

Go to www.dvxusers.com to learn about filmmaking with digital camera.
