Hi. I am a new member to the site. I am working on my first horror screenplay. However, I have heard it is very difficult to sell a first script to Hollywood.

Is this true?

Do your homework, get in touch with people that know what they are talking about. They're the ones not so easily found on the internet. And KEEP WRITING.

If you are going to post your script samples here, then you'd actually better pay attention. You may not like what you hear most of the time, and God knows I kick against the criticism, but what you will achieve in the long run is a good understanding of script writing. Some advice is good, some of it you can take with a pinch of salt. On the whole it is pretty truthful. These guys are quite good at taking the time to tell you how to fix your script, (but don't tell them I said so. Can't have them thinking they're experts).

cassg is right. It is hard to sell work. Look at the competition on these boards, that ought to tell you something.

a lot of producers are looking for good horror flicks. it's one of the most asked for genres of the lower budget companies. the biggest problem is that it's difficult to get a good horrifying scare these days. most people know that what's on the screen is just a movie and can still sleep at night and still go into the water. if you can write something like The Ring then you'll probably do well.
