View Full Version : SCORES

let us all put up our scores, honest scores, so we can at least make a mini-control group to figure out the numbers. in all honesty, i hope my script will not be counted because that means i'm in production, so i hope. . . but i'll start with my scores and some thoughts.

DRAMA - so i feel that i might of gotten even lower scores because the material wasn't a horror.

9 9 9 9

8 9 5 7

8 7 6 7

7 7 5 6

12 12 12 12

11 11 10 10

so, in reality, they only marked my first three, and i could have had a serious gripe, but if we look at those scores we can at least have an average of what got you in.

so, as other people add to the list we can narrow down what got you in. actually all we would have to do is find someone who did not get in and see what there scores were. . . so if you scored around 6-7s and didn't get in then we will know. .

btw, this system is unfair simply because it does not weigh the PEOPLE who graded the system in mind. if other people had scores on the average that weighed in at the trim line they HAVE a legitimate gripe.

so, beyond all the other things, you had to have luck in your favor to hopefully get your highest scores first.

one comment i recieved was, I DID NOT LIKE HOW YOUR FEMALE CHARACTER TREATED HER HUSBAND. HE DESERVED BETTER.. . .. that person gave us the lowest scores.

this system is screwed up, but if you had a great script, i find it almost impossible that more than two people gave you lower than a 4.

my last comment should be taken to heart by some of the marginal scripts and people who feel cheated. good luck next year, and keep writing. last year i didn't get in because i only had three reviews. it made me more determened, made me realize the importance of a catch logline and made me try harder, and harder. . . and harder.

failure is only the bridge you lay over the water you soon will cross. And gotham, i'd love to read your script.

i wasn't in the contest. my brother was.

I thought you weren't in the contest Vigorish?

I wasn't too suprised that I made the top 1000. My PGL entry was a thriller that was "Next 100 Scripts" in last years Nichol (missed the quarters by between 50 and 100, so in the top 6% or 7%). The SP has gotten better since then, and because it was the right genre and could be shot for $1mm, it seemed like a good bet for PGL.

I knew there was a chance that it wouldn't advance because of the PGL "chimp scoring" mechanism. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that scoring was all over the board, though I was actually a little suprised when I saw it for myself.

What really surprised me was that the scores I got were good enough to make the cut. Across all scores I got about 6.9 average and across "Overall" I got a 7 average (for scoring reviews). And that was good enough for top 1000. Doesn't bode well if these scores get carried forward into the next round.

At least most people got the genre right. And I think there's a chance that being the "preferred" genre helped in this round, so that might explain why the low scores were enough.

I'm hoping that the paid readers like it better. We'll see.

Scoring reviews

9/9/6/6 Thriller/Adventure
8/9/10/10 Thriller/Adventure
5/4/2/5 Action

Non-scoring reviews:

4/2/4/4 Thriller
5/2/4/5 Thriller/Adventure
10/10/11/9 Thriller/Adventure
8/8/8/8 Drama/Thriller
10/10/12/11 Thriller/Adventure
7/7/10/9 Thriller/Adventure

Somebody on another thread made a comment that any decent SP (or maybe any SP that made the top 1000) shouldn't have gotten a 4 or below on any rating. Well, read em and weep.

In case anybody here read it, the SP was called GAME THEORY.

Vigorish-

So you weren't entered in the contest... but your script was?

And now you are posting your scores... but you weren't entered?

Only your brother was in it... with your script.

And yet you bragged earlier about trolling through hundreds of loglines and fvcking up the review process with incorrect answers.

From what I saw on Uhuru's boards, the Fred the mysterious PGL guy said they took the first 5 reviews and then dropped the highest and lowest reviews. A lot of people are complaining that it didn't happen, based either on the order that the reviews are listed, or that little review id number. We have been making the assumption that the id number was simply an incremental counter. That does not appear to be the case.

I took a look at the list of reviews and checked out their id numbers in the order that that did the reviews, and saw something very interesting.

1st review id number:4415
2nd review 1d number:3966...
7th review id number:192

I think they are using a random number generator to get the id numbers. But the actual date/time of review is hidden.

This wouldn't be the first time that we were thrown off by their id numbers.

Does anyone remember when the contest began and people were looking at their script id number to figure out how many entries there were? At the time people estimated over 11,000 because that was the highest number script ID. In the end, there were only 4400 submissions.

So in the end, unless they decide to show the date/time field I think we're going to have to take their word for it.

As far as them only taking the first five...well, I can understand it. That was the lowest number of reviews that any screenplay had, any other method would favor screenplays that had more reviews.

the true gotham writer comes out. . . a pathetic spoiled sport.

did anyone think any different.

gotham, just take your medicine and write a better script. stopped complaining that you've been wronged. Stop trying to find and excuse that you didn't move on.

stopped spouting your sour grapes, as usually. stop trying to defend the reasons your script got two's.

stop diverting the blame. Just stop. You're even more pathetic then i thought.

No gotham, i didn't know the script was in the competition. It was news to me when i saw my brother's name on the board.

and as far as trolling for scripts, what does that have to do with your terrible scores? i read the loglines for my own amusement. I DID NOT MAKE ONE REVIEW.

and as far as your DEFENSE, that the people who made their reviews fist rushed through them, please, just shut up. you'e calling virtually every person who wanted to jump in the water and start a CHEATER, or a numbers squeezer.

that' pathetic. i know of ten, ten solid writers who read two script in the first day, that can write you under the table, are you accusing them of dunkking your scores?

what it boils down to gotham is a great script, like MY BROTHER entered didn't get anything below a 5. and scored a perfect score on one of it's marks, and virtually perfect scores for another.

so, if your script was anything near the kind of stuff WE write, you'd be in the next round instead of showing your true colors.

move on gotham.

Too bad that you "didn't know" you were entered in the contest when you were so busy mocking it.

I totally agree with Vigorish. I wasn't entered in the contest either, but my sister's best friend's ex-lesbian lover's dog was. Here are the pooch's scores (he's too modest to post them himself):

12 12 12 12 -- Used for scoring

12 10 11 11 -- Used for scoring

10 12 12 11 -- Used for scoring

8 12 12 9 -- Not used for scoring

12 12 12 12 -- Not used for scoring

12 12 12 11 -- Not used for scoring

9 9 12 10 -- Not used for scoring

The way I see it, if a mutt can make the cut, you guys should keep your disgruntled sentiments to yourselves.

Vigorish,

I entered, advanced and my scores were higher than yours. Does that mean that I am entitled to tell you what I think of your comments in this thread and others?

If Vigorish was unaware that a script that he co-wrote was entered into the competition, then how did he acknowledge the consent release that all entrants were required to sign when they registered?

Could someone clarify for me whether or not the person who actually submitted a script into PGL competition was required to be the original author of that work?

Chill, it is only natural to get upset when you feel you have written something good, and had that feeling justified by others (be it agents or other contests), and then have that same script receive dubious scores.

I didn't make it either and I have an agent who repped me on this script. I just signed a deal to write 10 eps of a TV series up here in tundraville - for money! Yay! I got 4 reviews with no comments that are highly suspect. 1 all 1's, 2 all 2's and one 2-3's. They did drop the all 1's, but one of the all 2's did count.

So, yeah, I'm not happy about it, but naming 1000 advancers is just going to make the news harder to take. Being human, people tend to look for extranneous reasons for failure. " I was robbed!" Hell, I have said it myself.

Point is, don't place too much faith into ANY contest. It is all subjective and doesn't mean you can't write or were targeted. Move on and keep writing.

Cheers!

Furthermore, Vigorish mentions in this very thread that he did not complete any reviews. Completing reviews was a requirement of participation.

So, Vig, if your script wins, you'll have to watch your brother take sole credit or you'll be DQ'd.

you guys are about as sharp as two bullnosed counter tops after the buffer gets done with it.

"That screenplay was submitted without any team members.
If you should make it into the Top 100, we can add a team member at that point." pgl administration

can we play another game dudeheimer, and gotham cause this one is done. thanks for playing. things always seem to work out for me. . . it's just how it is.

Things really must be working out for you if you've got so much experience buffing counter tops. I'll bet you are the #1 counter top buffer that has ever posted here.

I would LOVE to see you get added to the team if your brother's script makes it to the Top 100. I'm really enjoying seeing you waffle, mocking the contest one day, then being so excited the next. It would make a great reality TV story line.

We are still playing another game Vig. The one where my script and others here scored higher than yours across the board. And I didn't need my brother or my mommy to enter it for me.

Maybe PGL can do do an episode in which you come to the set and tell an uninterested PA that you helped write the script too and then he/she asks you to move to the side because you're blocking the craft services table.

I don't know exactly what the educational purpose of posting this is ...except to make others that got higher scores and moved on feel better, and to commiserate with the losers, but you can see how one person's pig's ear is another person's silk purse. ( and I still have trouble with possesive punctuation :D ) These were the high and the low scores and comments I recieved from the reviews that got counted.

Comments:
Well done. I really enjoyed reading this screenplay, although I thought the ending was a little too corny and fell flat. As I read this, it felt like a nice stage play (which is a compliment) and I think you could produce it that way (a thought for you, if it doesn't make it to screen). For this contest, however, it would be difficult to make for one million dollars as written (due to special effects). I enjoyed the dialogue and felt I knew each character. The ending, although I knew it was going there, fell flat for me only because it was such a jolt from the fantastic fish tale to reality -- pretending to have a stutter? -- (maybe it was just a result from me not wanting it to end?); overall, fun script to read, I hope you move on to the next round.

Comments:
This story is not well-structured at all and the characters are too much alike. I had no idea what the point was and by the end, I just decided it was some guy's fishing fantasy. The format also needs to be refined. Many errors in punctuation, mostly possessives. The one thing that I felt was well done was the descriptives regarding the underwater scenery and water sequences, but the story and dialogue were boring.

So, there you have it.
