I'm only familiar with a few of the scripts that have made it to the final rounds of this competition--and at the most they appear to be mid-budget films ($30-40 mil.) Does anybody know if big budget films are well-received? Will scripts with special effects or big set pieces be welcomed?

Or does this competition generally favor indie/art house stuff?

i really wouldn't worry about budget constraints with austin. it's not their intent to produce, so they don't give a crap if your script pales the national deficit in comparison.

as far as the indie stuff goes, i've seen political dramas, broad comedies, action scripts and existential think-pieces advance. you just need a solid script and a shot of luck with the first round readers.
