Received this today from a major UK prod co

Thank you for sending us XXXXX. We find it has commercial potential however we'd like to wait until you have attached some cast and a director before we would consider involvement. If you could keep us posted on your progress with that we'd really appreciate it. Best of luck to you in the mean time and have a great Christmas.

Is this a polite UK blow off, or should we be getting excited by this.

Oh God I know these replies so well but mostly from sales agents who don't want to commit on a script level but don't want to burn bridges either in case you get hot talent attached.

From a prod. co. it's a blow off. Why? Because they're friggin' producers!It's their job to attach cast and director so this shows how uncommitted they are to the project. Of course if they are experienced producers and can help you complete the project/financing after you've attached director/cast then it could be worth going back to them later but in an ideal world you need to find people who will produce your project because they believe in your script and are not just jumping on a train that's already left the station.

You certainly won't need them.
They don't believe in the script but would gladly attach
themselves for a free ride to Moneyville ala Kid's post

We currently have the script with the Australian agent of a major Australian movie star. Would it be worth mentioning this email to them as a way of generating some interest?? They have only had the script for a couple of days.

It won't hurt to name drop.

I don't think any producer/ exec will delete your email just because you mention it.
