View Full Version : Crash's Official Disney Fellowship Angst And Results Thread

Since I'm such a cooler-than-thou trendsetter, I decided to get a jump on our collective Disney Fellowship anxiety by setting up a results thread well in advance.
Those lucky bastards who progress won't hear until Thanksgivingish, and the loooosers won't get the lovely form letter ("Due to the high quality of this year's applicants...") until the new year, but screw it. I'm all about counting down to armageddon.
So what did you enter? Did it suck? Do you think you're going to win? Let's start a pool!

entered a comedy with an incredibly deep plot hole.
it won't win, no, unless i get an interview. then it will. i have a thing for ariel. if she's there, i'm in. i think.
i'm in for a buck or a beer. you enter your 182 page monstrosity, kd? kill will part one and two, the dark comedy you have to finish in the dark?
you trend-setter, you.

I entered a supernatural thriller that has so far generated a mix of reactions. I think it's pretty good, and the rest of the world thinks it's sh1t.
I won't win.

Thanks for asking, FilmBluff. No, I didn't enter my magnum opus, Vin Diesel is Vin Diesel in Vin Diesel: Man Of Action. Instead I sent the Imagineers a Scrubs spec about this Hugh Hefner-ish fellow who comes to Sacred Heart and the wackiness that ensues. It's amazingly awesome.
Okay, it's not. It's, I don't know. I'm not horrified by it. People laugh politely while reading it. Of course, they don't work for the Mouse, which I hear permanently screws up your sense of humor.
:(
I'm doomed!

I entered a romantic comedy. Don't know how well I'll do. I also entered it (and another script) in the Chesterfield Contest, and was quickly rejected. Hopefully that's not an indicator how this script will do with the Disney folks.

I entered a kick-ass sci-fi/action script. It is so amazing. Great coverage from several other contests.
So ... I have no chance. :o

Comedy.
Quick read, funny premise, good characters.
No prayer.

I entered a Six Feet Under spec, its good, but very un-Disney so I probably wont get anywhere.

Common misconception. They're not looking for 'disney' necessarily.
And in the TV side there are fewer entries and more Fellowships. So good luck to you, Kosmikgurl.

Last year, Disney didn't notify semifinalists until the week of Thanksgiving. This year, on the website, it says the first week of December.

Okay, seeing as this is the funniest thread I've read in a while I wanted to vote on the wittiest response thus far. I'm currently going with Rachel Squeeze's entry...
"Comedy.
Quick read, funny premise, good characters.
No prayer."
...Hell, at least someone wins in here.

I knew my script had no chance. So, I concentrated on the autobiography they required. If I made it clear that I was a fascinating, witty guy who had lead a life of adventure, they might conclude I had great stories to tell.
So I lied...a lot.

Well, it's started.
A friend (and no, not "a friend" as in me) just got a call: she's a semi-finalist. :)
Who else has advanced?

Does anyone know how many people entered this year?

Did you friend enter TV or Feature?
So Semis are phone calls and Finals are in-person?
AvenueD

Yes, first there is a phone interview. Last year 40 or so people got phone interviews and 12 were brough in for final interviews, IIRC.
I'm surprised they're calling so early, website said first week of December.

She entered TV.

I didn't get picked. :(
Next year, I'm going to submit something. I'm sure I'll have a better chance then!

How do you know you didn't get picked?
KD The Wubat
11-18-2003, 11:10 AM
Well, Clary knows because he didn't actually enter.
And I get the impression that if you didn't get a call by now, you're not going to, but of course I could be wildly wrong. :)

I just got an email back regarding the Disney fellowship. They said some semifinalist have been contacted. If you don't hear back from them by the end of this week, you weren't selected.

rozzyr:
Did you email them at abc.fellowships@abc.com? Is that how you found out about notification this past week?
I emailed them with new contact info. since I moved and in my idealistic mind wanted them to have my correct contact info. My mail's being forwarded from my old address, but I've not received a letter yet (I live in L.A. so I would have received a rejection letter if they have sent them out already).
Cheers,
-Brendon

In past years they didn't send out rejection letters until well after the fellows had been chosen.
Last year's fellows were chosen the third week of December.

I emailed the program today (Monday) and got this response:
"Semi finalists are being called now. Everyone else will receive written
notification before the end of the year."

Bleh, no dice this year. Last year musta been a fluke, lol.
Granted, they didn't call until Dec 2nd last year, but I'm going to assume the worst and go on a bender now.

:( no call
But I do have an agent reading the book I wrote that the screenplay is adapted from--so, maybe it's a good thing.

It's been a while since I've been here. For some reason had to re-register, but tried to kept my "handle" from before, so hi to my old friends.
There is still a small window of hope, ya'll. I got the call today (for TV), and was told they were wrapping up calls by tomorrow.

OK, I know I didn't make it. A month down the road I have to let go of the hope that they just misplaced my phone number. ;) But I still haven't gotten a letter, and it's hard to get any, you know ... closure.
Anyone gotten rejection letters yet?

Maybe they'll give you the old, 'your application was incomplete' b.s. they've done in past years and send it back to you, supposedly unconsidered.

Oh, gee, I can't wait. I didn't think there was anything lower than a rejection. I stand corrected. I'll be watching the mail with anticipation.

I e-mailed the program today and got this prompt response:
****************************
Fellows for the 2004 Program have been selected and all contacted via telephone.
Written notification has been mailed out to all television applicants; expect letters to be sent out to feature candidates within the next week or so.
A press announcement will release the names of the Fellows later in the year.
Thank you very much for your interest in our program.

What a total let down! I went through a 45 min. phone interview with them and was specifically told that I would recieve a call back to let me know if i advanced or not. Well, I never got a call and I even called them back (since they left me the number). Couldn't get in touch with anyone - I'm guessing b/c of the holidays, but I left a messgae and still no call. That really irks me b/c they said point-blank that they be calling either way. Oh, well, guess another one has bitten the dust.
Did anyone here make the first cut and recieve a phone interview? I'm curious to know if there are others who didn't get a notification call afterwards.
