Last year I took one of my scripts to Universal on location. The Directors assistant read the first 20 pages and said; I have got to get this to Peter Berg and Michael Mann, can I show this to them? Long story short, I went home and set two scripts up like I was submitting them to a contest, and brought them back to the set with release forms. The forms were signed, and I left the scripts. That was in August, haven't heard a thing.
How long by any standards do they actually have to get back?
The release form asks for a 15 day evaluation after the read.

When they want the script, they get back to you.

When they don't want it, they never get back to you.

I think you have your answer.

Well put. Also, if no money exchanged hands and you didn't put a first-look agreement in your release form, the prodco has no rights to your original work now or in the future. Sell 'em somewhere else...
