Kind of at a loss for words right now. And honestly, in a state of shock. But damn, after six years, it finally happened!

Going out to have some drinks right now to celebrate!!!

And I do have to give props to:

Triggerstreet
Zoetrope
The people on this board who gave me excellent constructive advice (and ultimately helped me improve).
Scriptblaster, for getting my script out to agents and saving me time and energy. The forty bucks or so I spent on the agents blast, was the best 40 bucks I've ever spent.
The head of development for the prodco I used to work at for throwing one of my early scripts on the ground and saying "Have you ever even READ a script before???". Yes, that was harsh, but his pointers sure as hell helped alot. Honestly, that was the big turning point.

Good luck!

Heh.

Now the real fun begins...

"We love your script, but we think you've taken it as far as you can."

"We're going to bring in some new blood."

"I like the script; we just want to change a couple of things."

"I know you're script is about a bank heist, but could we not have the heist? I'm thinking this would make a good romantic comedy."

"The ending doesn't work for us."

"The tone is too dark. We've been wanting to do a picture with Hillary Duff. So, can you jazz it up with some comedy and a funny set piece?"

"Think of your movie... but set 50 years in the future!"

"If your character dies, we can't have a sequel. Just put him in a coma or something. I smell franchise."

;)

And it seems the guy got an offer of representation. Not an option. I don't think he has to start sweating the rape of his project just yet....

Well done! - enjoy the moment - an offer of representation is not an end in itself but it is an achievement and it is progress - there will always be ups and downs but I think that one has to just savour the good moments when they come and not project too much on what will come next.

I felt great after getting my call (in the middle of dinner) with an offer of representation. I didn't take up the offer but I was on a high for a couple of days. I've had various ups and downs since then and I just got an 'up' yesterday and now my philosophy is, well this may all come to nothing but I'm going to enjoy it for what it is.

By the way is it a big 5, boutique, small firm?

Congrats Nostromo28!

I liked your acceptance speech. It was short and to the point and you got off the stage before they started playing the theme from Evita. Well done.

Now go do what KidCharlemagne108 said and enjoy the moment. As a matter of fact do something tangible and visual to mark the moment. Because if there is ever a down self-doubting moment, and we all have them, you can look at that momento and remember that you can do this and you can succeed.

Good luck!

That's awesome, dood.

This is the second major step on the ladder (first being, of course, actually writing a killer script).

Enjoy it.

Some never even get on the ladder.

Is it not typical for an offer to be made at your meeting? Do they usually meet with you and call you later? I just figured they know if they like you're writing going in to the meeting, so if they like you as a person, then they just offer. No?

Ele - It seems like with acting they wait and call you within 48 hours to let you know if they are going to sign you. They usually say at the end of the meeting "we're going to check to see where we are with clients in your category." I think that basically means are they willing to drop who they already have to make room for you or take you on in addition.

In terms of writing, they've already read you before the meeting and it seems like once you get in there it's just about whether you are presentable and they feel comfortable sending you out in the world on their reputation. They'll gage that in the meeting and make an offer somewhere during that meeting.
