View Full Version : Help
Hi,
My problem is that.
I sent my book to an agency and it needs editing. The cost is out of my pocket so i give up. Now, my sister found a manager for me. He said he would do it with no charge and get paid after selling it. He added he would took some percent.
I were not sure how much he meant, so I asked for the confirmation. The response is that it could not happen because I told the agency jusy get from 20% to 25%. They want more and my sister said it is lucky if I get 10%. She responds how complicated they correct, copy and sell it. Is not the writing harder? My effort and grey matter just value an alms?
Please tell me if the BK Nelson exist? How could I give back my book? I have kept all the email (17 emails), mail, fax, account number. Is it enough? I applied to the WGA.
Help me please.

I'm sorry but I couldn't understand a word you just typed.
Do you live outside of the US?
Everyone will tell you if an agent ask for money FOR ANY REASON then you should avoid them.
Personally I got a request from the BK Nelson agency and they wanted $350 to read my book. I took their request and threw it in the trash.
Good luck

My sense is that the original poster is not a native English speaker. If this is so, why would you want your book to be published here, knowing that it would require not only heavy editing but, to some degree, a recasting of your language into one with which you're clearly not conversant?
For you to be trying to get representation here seems to me to be a mistake. If, say, you're Swedish or Finnish or Dutch or whatever, why not write the book in your original language and try to get it published in your native country?
I had to move to England before I could get published, and I had to live there long enough before I could write in what is recognizably British English; not only a matter of spelling, but of the nuances of usage. It takes time, and it takes practice, and I'd hate to see you bilked at the hands of some shady agent.

I agree with the above posts. You would be well advised to publish your book in your native language (I'll guess Japanese), with an agent in your country taking 10-15%. Then, if the book is successful, the American publisher will have the financial and technical burden of translating it into English.
As it stands, if you have written it in English, I'm afraid the task of correcting your work would be enormous. It would take half an hour just to correct your current post. And you wouldn't know if the person doing the work was doing it properly.
You reference applying for the WGA. I assume you mean you've registered your work with them. One does not apply for membership with the WGA. Once you qualify for membership, they will contact you.

Not to mention that you'll get financial rewards for selling the US rights!:D

I'm guessing South Korea.

I'm guessing Indian. I have a few friends from India and his post reminded me of the way they talk.
Must be hard for someone from another country to break into the US market. I know it’s hard enough for those of us living here. I can't imagine trying to get my book/books published in India, China, Japan...anywhere...I wouldn't even try without having an agent who was experienced in foreign rights.
I wish him/her the very best of luck.

Anyone else notice that our foreign friend with English as a third language NEVER responds to posts in his threads, but simply starts new ones asking the same dumb questions over and over.
