I need input on this.

I got an email from my yahoo group this morning saying that this company was accepting submissions, so I went to their website and filled out the submission form. I just checked my email now and found this (I hope it's okay to copy and paste the email... if not I'll edit it out).

From the CEO/founder of Kazzurie Pictures, Sirlaosson Dara:

"KIM BRITT?!

AMONG THE DEAD?!

I BEEN TRY FOR 2 YEARS TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU!

I am very interested in this script, but you catch us at a bad time we
are
waiting on our second round of investments... But I really want to get
this
script ^__^

Email me back ASAP

-Lao"

I'm not sure what to make of this. To the best of my knowledge I've never queried him or his company before, but my shady EX manager used to show my stuff around without telling me  so it's possible this is genuine.

Anyway, what should I do, email back asking where/how he came across my script, or would that be totally inappropriate?

Yeah, I saw that. They have a bunch of stuff listed as in pre-production on their website, too.

The smart play would be to email them again from another address, eg.

frankjohnson@yahoo.com

and see if you get back a message:

FRANK JOHNSON?!

AMONG THE DEAD?!

I BEEN TRY FOR 2 YEARS TO GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU!

Honestly, the email he sent you sounds like BS... waiting on 2nd round of funding. what does that have to do with reading your script? sure, he's trying to raise money, get a fund, build a slate, etc., but he can read your script. it can only HELP him raise money, not hurt or interfere in any way. if he's been wanting to talk to you for 2 years - you'd think he'd have more / interesting stuff to say.

You'd also think that if he's a legit producer capable of raising money, he'd master the English language a little better. If that really is the e-mail he sent verbatim, you gotta wonder how distant a second language English is for him, and whether he communicates so illierately with potential investors.
Or maybe he's just so excited to hear from you that he got tongue/keyboard tied.

The words 'scrape' and 'barrel' come to mind ;)

What are you guys being so cynical for?

One film they are producing is in a bidding war between two major studios! It's due to be released theatrically nationwide in late 2007.

Mind you, it hasn't been filmed yet and they are still looking for investors for the film ... I guess bidding wars aren't what they used to be.

According to his speil to investors, his movies have 'an unlimited profit potential' !!!

(PS: Despite what IMDB says, I'm note sure that it truly is a credit. This is a Memphis production company limited to doing low budget work in Memphis. The film listed is a Thai film. However, Sirlaosson Dara did the SFX for it.)

(PPS: I think he is telling the truth about trying to get in contact with you.

Your script is listed on 'Simply Scripts' with this in the comment trail:

Kazzurie, 2-Nov-2006, 1:01am: I been looking for Kim for a year!! I wish I could find her... I really want this script!
Greg, 2-Nov-2006, 5:25pm: So how's the $25 million "The Farm" coming, Kazzurie? )
