Does anyone know what SOP for the police is if an underage kid (say, 15 years old) confesses to murder? Do the cops immediately call his parents before taking his statement? Or would they first talk to him without his guardians present?
Thanks for anybody's insight.

I had a 6th grade teacher who acted just like abusive cop.
Then he became one ( a cop).
A year later I was at another school and went to a High-school football game and he (former 6th grade teacher) was in the stands, patroling in uniform; looking for trouble.
sucks
I'm not sure what the SOp is on that situation. If he confesses, he should still be entitled to a phone call. Whether-or-not the precinct call parents or guardians first, that's aanother issue.

My son often gets arrested for tagging, and they're complete bastards to him. Society hates taggers, and the cops love dishing out justice to them. I get a phone call usually an hour or so after they've finished grilling him. And kicking him.
But he's a sweet little thing. His tag is TRUTH.

That's TROOF!
Seriously though, this is a smaller issue encapsulated in a much larger issue.
"get em while they're young" turns in to this...

Let me have a few minutes with your sweet little tagger child. The cops won't have any more trouble out of him.

unfortunately, that's precisely the energy that inspires him to go out tagging.
Last time he got caught was for taging a cop car, WHILE they were in it. Urgh. But I've told them, you brought this on yourself. YOU made him hate cops.
But he's getting better. Well, not better, lazy, more to the point, he just can't quite be bothered running thru the streets at night anymore. And we've been travlling a lot, which distracts him.

What the f*ck is tagging?
Is that like shooting a cop with a paintball gun?

A paintball gun? ha ha, yea, he spent months harassing me to buy him a paintball gun, which I wouldn't. Then he realised he could buy one on the internet if he had a credit card, so then he spent months harassing me to get him a credit card.
A credit card ???
But I will write a teenager story one day. Can't decide if it will be a comedy or a tragedy.

I have a teenager, too, and in my experience they are more savvy than you might think. Most that I know have already been instructed on what to say to the good officers as they are picked up. The one's with lawyers for parents are instructed to remind the cop of their minor status and ask for their guardian and/or a lawyer. Never a bad idea but...God help me the day my son needs to use THAT one.

I've thought of telling him to remind them that he has the right to remain silent but then I thought it might just make them laugh or kick him harder.
But god help any parent. If it's not one drama it's another. Especially between the age of 15 and 25.... car crashes, broken hearts, depression, drugs.... none of them are safe. It's a mine field.

Give me a few minutes with him, and I'll school him in street chemistry and mixing chemicals together--weaponizing them...those law dogs won't f*ck with him anymore...believe me.
