Very interesting article with the writers of this spec script that sold for megabucks. Pretty much blows out of the water all the "conventional wisdom."

I read this article and enjoyed it, but I'm not sure what you mean by it blowing conventional wisdom out of the water?

It's in the current issue.
Well...these guys were not "screenwriters" in the sense that we might think. When they wrote their script, it was more of a lark in response to movies they saw and hated. No screenwriting classes, no degrees.
They had ONE script and flogged it to death via snail and mail. They kept querying until it hit the right person at the right time.
That's what I mean. :)

I'm reading it now. Really liked it for the first act, now I'm half-way through and bored to tears. It's too one note. The plot is boring, so if you get sick of the one-note character, you start wanting to put it down. I do think it's risky and brave of the writers, though. It's just the plot sucks balls.

Well, crap, now I've got to read this article.
By the way, the magazine now uses volume and number and a date on the cover, which really helps to identify which issue is being referenced.

hey, sorry, i just saw this...that message doesn't read the way i meant it. no problem, i apologize for that.
one thing i've noticed is the incredibly different paths that people take to Hollywood, not to mention a successful writing career.
while sure there is the USC / UCLA clicks...how many of those student DON'T make it as pro writers?
i mean, i'm met a couple serious industry folks. aside from the finance and internal operations people, it seems everyone has a different way of behaving, acting, talking, and communicating.
i find it unlike any business i've encountered to the variety of the backgrounds of the people in it.

That's about how far I got. It read like a parody of a script, not an actual script.

Would anyone be so kind as to send me a copy of this? I've got a few scripts I can share as well, but only like four or five. But I'll give you all I got!

i could see a development person pitching it as "Matador meets Out of Sight meets Austin Powers".
er, yeah, right.
