I was just wondering what the main role of a creative executive with a production company is?

To execute anyone showing signs of creativity. Hence all the remakes.

I think he's the *lion* at the first door. Chances are, he'll pass either on your query or your script, *if* you get that far.

OTOH, there are really some very nice ones who do want to discover a great script and bring it to their superiors and get brownie points.

One creative executive worked with me on a script that he liked. Unfortunately, he left that company before fruition. Creative execs move around quite a bit.

I did get a better script out of it and it was subsequently optioned somewhere else.

A creative executive is generally the person who is filtering through material for a production company. They are usually not the first line of defense nor are they the final word.

What exactly their daily responsibilities are can vary a bit from company to company or company to studio, of course, but mainly they are the person who is going to be seeking out new material, taking phone pitches from writers, agents, & managers about scripts that are available, then they will be reading & evaluating the material that comes in -- though if they are at a decent size company they will probably look at coverage first before deciding to read the script or not -- and they will be the ones working with a writer in many cases giving notes if interest develops for the work, etc.

In addition, they are usually the ones who decide whether a company even wants to look at a script or not. They will read the query letters and or e-queries that come in. They will be the ones taking meetings with writers to see what the writers are like and discuss the writers' work. And so on.

They will also be the person who finds material they like then champion it to their boss(es) in hopes of getting the material bought or optioned for the company to try to produce.

Not the greatest explanation but hopefully that will help some.
