I am in the midst of trying to attach actors to my spec before my rep goes out with it after the holidays at the end of September.

I've tapped the few contacts I have (friends, family, etc) to get the script to several actors directly because it appears going through their reps seems to be a waste of time, unless there is $$$.

Has anybody had success attaching talent to scripts before they go out to the market? I can use all the advice I can get.

Thanks,

G.G.

We had a manager attach an actor to a script of our ours. He gave the script to the actor's manager first. He read it, liked it, and gave it to his actor client. The actor liked it and they attached him to play the lead.

I think managers might be more open to considering material for their clients without a $$$ offer on the table. From what I've read--actors' agents almost never do, and the bigger the name, the less likely they are to look at a script without an offer.

What about your rep? Doesn't he/she have access to talent? It was our manager who got our script to several actors before hooking one's interest.

Good Luck

Thanks for the reply.

My manager does have access to a few actors, but I've found (especially with a first script sale) the writer is the one with the hunger, passion and ambition to get out there and attach as many elements as he/she can before going "Wide" with any spec in a less than receptive market.

I feel like my manager and agent could be doing more to get attachments, while they feel that attachments generally aren't worth the time and effort when the studios (if they bite) will want the script 'unencumbered' - this often includes the writer.

Did you sell your script with the actor attached in the lead?:)
