For those of you who live in New York, are there any bars, clubs, events, or other organizations where people (including, but not limited to producers), can be found? I'd really like to meet more people in the NY film and tv scene.

It's not my group. I belong to it but I didn't start it. It does use professional actors and is in the Manhattan Theater Club.

This is good stuff. I'm moving to NYC from Pittsburgh, PA in 10 months after my lease runs up. I'd really like to get in with some writers or anyone else in the arts for that matter. I'm going from knowing hundreds of people where I live currently to knowing zero when I move to NY. It's going to suck until I meet some crew.

What industries do you guys work in? I'll go first -- TV.

I am actually a practicing attorney by day, and filmmaker the rest of the time. I've directed three shorts, am writing my first 2 features now, and working on a short pilot. On the later, I need readers so if anyone is interested, let me know. It's about 20 pages long. I was actually accepted to an MFA in film program, but questioning right now whether I can still finance it or whether its necessary.

I work in entertainment/fitness industry for a day job. I encode music videos and advertisements that get sent out to clubs like Gold's Gym, etc.
Aside from those 8 hours in the day, I am also a filmmaker/writer. Wrote a couple of shorts. Co-wrote/co-directed a short that got accepted into a couple of film fests and got good feedback. Currently, I put off directing independent films that I write and am strickly sticking to writing features. Moving to NY in 10 friggin months. Can't wait!

Used to be a distribution coordinator for broadcast syndication. :|

Just found this...http://www.nyscreenwriters.org/
Screenwriting group that meets in Times Square every other Tuesday.
These guys are on hiatus for the rest of 2011 but may have been inactive before then. No reply when you send an eMail about meeting locations.
You might want to check out the NYC Screenwriters Meetup and The New York Film Industry Meetup:

Both are very active groups.Meetup is the best. (No, I don't work for them. I wish I did.) I've been a member of the Screenwriters' Meetup for about 7 years now - this is a serious bunch of writers with emphasis not just on structure but character every week. If you're a newby writer, don't call one agent until you've been on "the hotseat". Plenty of room right now for you to RSVP!
NYCScreenwriter.org used to host a great series of events, but they've devolved into a lot of infomercials. They still have an interesting program of speakers and even a pitchfest, and did I mention the networking?
The industry mixers around town are great for technical people (like me) or actors, but unless you want to direct your script independently, there's no one to pitch to, really. Sometimes a big event like the Showbiz Expo has a mirror event in NYC where you can network with other writers.
Got any great networking or industry tips or secrets for New York writers?

I'm in TV as well, gotten a few (very small) things on air but still have no agent/manager/etc.
I try to attend events at the Paley when I can, love that place! Looking to meet people with at least some experience in the industry. Tried attending some screenwriting workshops around town but no one I met had any industry experience so it was kind of a wash.
Any recs for NY networking greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the tip about the Paley Center. Looks expensive, though. I could make a movie with what it costs for a membership.
