Stop me if this one's been asked a thousand times before...but give me the link to the old threads if it has.

I've got an outstanding lawyer at the best Entertainment Law firm in Canada, Roberts & Stahl. They've really gone the extra mile for me, either because they're nice people (come on, they're lawyers) or because they have faith in my career prospects. I feel totally secure in their ability to negotiate the terms of a contract to my advantage. In one of my first conversations with the head of the firm, about a book project, he stopped me and said "We can handle the contract negotiations, but I frankly am not the best person to put a street value on that kind of project, so you might want to consult an agent." That goes a long way in my estimation.

Given that the firm, and my lawyer Kyle Fogden, are pretty much centered on the film and television industry, do I also need to go agent shopping? I, personally, have no problem looking people in the eye and saying "there just aren't enough zeros here." And then, I have all of you to tell me "Honey, you're asking for too many zeros".

Help me, Obi-Wans! (http://terminalcity.diary-x.com)

having a great lawyer is always helpful...but you need an agent. that's the one that will be hunting down assignments for you, trying to staff you on a tv show, getting you in the rooms for meet & greets, etc.

a lawyer is certainly capable to negotiate a deal, but they're not going to do the above. but your attorney should be helpful in assisting you in the search for one.
