Congrats to Arroway! :D

But of course, we're all winners (cue emotional music) because at the end of the day, at least we all did some writing and got some practice.

Roll on MADHOUSE!

Well done Arroway. I though Raw Voltage was simply shocking!

Congrats Arroway! And... whoever else entered. Names, Adam, names. :)

If anyone's interested, some comments... which are just my humble opinion, not gospel.

Drag - Delany should have paid more attention to the health warning on the packs. Gregory chooses his vice over love, *and* he picks up a chick -- gotta love the guy. Just squeezed out of a vote by other entries.

Hockey Night - crazy little entry, I'm not quite sure what it's doing in this contest, might have suited a Halloween contest better.

Mangia - holy sh!t. Too much fecal matter, too little story coming together.

What Happened - this is a cleverly put together domino effect/misunderstand kind of tale with a dash of surrealism, only problem is it left me shrugging. Just speak up, Joe! Tell them what happened!

Liquor Lover Lever - liked the intercuts between fantasy and reality, poor guy, but the (needlessly) spaced-out (needlessly) vertical style sucked.

Vice Squad - mine, I did a lot of personal research for this one.

Sleepy Bear - classy stuff, liked the style, shows how V.O. can work to great effect, gets a vote.

Lazy Boy - entertaining and meets the contest criteria, tho' the reporter/cop stuff seemed kinda unnecessary. Gets a vote.

Clowning Around - this was always going to end up with Shelley dead. Maybe the dialogue was too much of a clue? Some of the names above dialogue seemed mixed-up, as if the wrong person was talking.

Raw Voltage - why don't I ever meet girls like this? Odd start with the pig, but picks up quickly and delivers. Gets a vote.

The Deepest Cut - could have been something, but isn't.

Remembered - clever, well-executed, but man what a downer.

Congrats Arroway!

my votes were and my unprofessional opinions...

1. Mangia- who doesn't have gluttony as a vice? Nicely
set up and I thought really laugh out loud funny and
funny seduces me.

2. Remembered- I thought this was stunning in that
I had no idea where it was going and I was strangely
satisfied with a very down ending. I should have put
this at number one.

3. Deepest Cut- agree with Derek that this had potential
but didn't get quite there but the characters somehow for
me were really intriguing.

...(cue emotional music)....

(Emotional music (http://www.resologist.net/Ophelia.mid) by Ethelbert Nevin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethelbert_Nevin).)

Your vices.
Hockey Night - crazy little entry, I'm not quite sure what it's doing in this contest, might have suited a Halloween contest better.
Was I the only one who dared to expose their own vice?

To my delight, recently, an exceptional circumstance allowed me to savour an unrestrained old vice of mine.... Did I feel any guilt, or remorse, for what I did? Nay! Do I care about any prizes, winning, or getting anyone's vote? Ha! I'd merely challenge your minds and let you wonder what, (if anything), you'd do given the same circumstance.
My entry in this contest closely followed a recent lucid dream of mine. Most of those REM exercises are quickly forgotten; but, recognizing my being in a dream-state, I'll do more than watch the subconscious fantasies unfold, to purge my mind of troublesome annoyances. An old childhood memory of being bullied, (long forgotten and settled), an ancient fear of being chased by some imagined monster, or falling from some unknown precipice may waken one with a nasty "night terror." Instead, I'll let the nonsense unfold and take control. If a dream character annoys me, I'll purge them, (after checking to see if I recognize some antagonist from my past), without mercy, (usually a viciously swift death from which none return). 'Tisn't daydreaming a bit of mayhem, nor revenge; rather, it's a cathartic (http://messageboard.donedealpro.com/boards/showthread.php?p=468232#post468232) device, (in which, I can take delight, without any guilt, tho such wraths would normally be thought to be a vice).

"The term catharsis has also been adopted by modern psychotherapy, particularly Freudian psychoanalysis, to describe the act of expressing deep emotions often associated with events in the individual's past which have never before been adequately expressed. Catharsis is also an emotional release associated with talking about the underlying causes of a problem.

"It can also describe the effect producing an outlet for violence by acting as a form of release for violent behaviour. For example, in forms of media or in a dream." ~ Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catharsis#Medical_uses)My vote went to "Clowning Around," tho I don't see much of a vice in girls wearing a little make-up.

What vice? Having demonic glowing-eye psychokinetic powers? Refereeing hockey matches? Demanding unruly kids pay attention to you?

I think he means that his vice is submitting cathartic personal scripts to contests. :-)

'Tis the death penalties I mete out, (with fiendish glee), which aren't yet sanctioned for "Pee Wee" players by the Ontario Hockey Federation nor by the Hockey Canada rule book (http://www.njhl.ca/HACulebook.pdf), (see Rule 47).

I think he means that his vice is submitting cathartic personal scripts to contests.

MADHOUSE - HOW TO MAKE A MONSTER!OCTOBER 1, 2008 - HALLOWEEN NIGHT!!!

Have you ever thought about creating a monster? Well, I have. Next month's event gives you and I the opportunity we've all waited for...the chance to create our own signature monster!!!!

The Derek awards will go to the Most Original Monster & Most Frightening Monster:cool:

Have you never wanted to do anything that was dangerous? Where should we be if no one tried to find out what lies beyond? Have your never wanted to look beyond the clouds and the stars, or to know what causes the trees to bud? And what changes the darkness into light? But if you talk like that, people call you crazy. Well, if I could discover just one of these things, what eternity is, for example, I wouldn't care if they did think I was crazy.

I want to thank all the members who voted for my entry, Clowning Around. Coming in SECOND PLACE is ...an honor...it isn't as good a FIRST PLACE, of course, especially when it appears that BOOZE was a prize. I think it was the promise of some free alchol that got me to submit it the first place.

Second place is good, though...mm, it's just that last night you wouldn't believe the things I had to do for some free alcohol. Things I wouldn't have had to do if, you know, I came in first place. Which is no biggee.

But hey, congrats to Arroway! And everyone who entered - we're all winners right?

But just remember the next time, when we have MADHOUSE, that I'll be entered and I'll hide my name in the script so you'll know to vote for me because if I do good, I'll get some free booze and then I won't have to, well, I'd rather not say. But you know.
