I have tried pitching to agents of the actors that I think would be perfect to play the key roles in my script but the agents responded by saying they don't accept unsolicited scripts. Then one of the Hollywood experts suggested pitching to heads of production companies. But where do I find them? Is there a listing or directory? Has anyone had any success going this route?

Work on securing an agent or manager. Don't waste time on calling production companies to try and pitch your work.

99.9% of them have firm "no unsolicited material" rules, just like actors' reps.

Get your work to ANYONE --you never know.. agents are not the big deal you think... I am with a good mid-sized agent and I do all the hustle work... every job I have gotten was from MY WORK --not them!!!

actually 99.9% is way too high. there are many production companies who take unsolicited scripts but you need to find out who they are through diff sources than just a directory.

ie:
www.inktip.com (http://www.inktip.com) has a newsletter for the purpose of informing us "what producers are looking for" - they are very specific and you cannot query them if it's diff than what they ask for

www.scriptpimp.com (http://www.scriptpimp.com) has lists of producers/agents/managers that indicate those who will take queries and submissions from unagented new writers

the latest issue of Creative Screenwriting magazine (well, in every issue they have this section) does production company profiles and lists what kind of material they're looking for and who accepts unsolicited queries

you just have to look around for stuff.

write on!

p.s. - but like i suggested to you on the other board - test your stuff out first before you send it out.
