Someone pointed out to me that, after one of our chats, I promised to read query letters with the words DONE DEAL in the subject line. I know I responded to some, put am now aware that I did not respond to all. The fact that I did not, was not intended...some of them just slipped through the cracks, so to speak. I am sure you all are aware at how busy it is working within the entertainment industry. It's always "crazy busy". Anyway, I am a man of my word. I want to make good on a promise that I made. Therefore, I would be more than happy to read query letters from DONE DEAL members. All you need to do is email me at mhernandez@ceg-la.com and place the words DONE DEAL (space between the words, nothing else) in the subject line and I will respond to your query. Based on some of the things I read within this last string, I know that some of you may say "go to ______". That is fine and I am sorry I didn't get you the first time around. However, for those that want to submit a query, I would be more than happy to have a look. Please know, in advance, that I do NOT have time to go back and forth, emailing about your query letter and why it may not be something for CEG. Either we respond, or we don't If we don't respond this time around (and we will tell you if it is not for us), then please go to our website and submit another query. I want to make myself "whole" on a promise I made during our last chat and apologize to those who I missed the first time around.
Very truly yours,
Marc

I was going to bring this up in the other thread but it got a little heated and, ultimately, locked.
I was curious about all of this so I spent yesterday exchanging email and a query with Marc. He was really great and politely passed on the script I queried. I want to point out that this pass had no caveats. There was no "perhaps you'd like to try our script consultation service" or a request for the script with a later referral to the script consultation service. Just a "that's not my thing" from Marc. *Sigh*
If you read Marc's interview on this Done Deal you'll see that one of the things he's trying to do with Crescendo is build a web-based business model. This site is one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) site's for screenwriting communities on the internet. That goes a long way towards explaining why we see so much of him around here and why he's spending so much time here defending himself.
So ultimately my own experience was pretty positive and Marc was pretty stand-up (despite spiking my baby.) :(

In my case, I emailed him two queries and I got two requests to send him my scripts. We exchanged emails throughout the day; in every one he was friendly and helpful. He even asked me to call him up to talk about the scripts, but since I was going to a meeting I was not able to call him. He’s been the first manager to offer a phone conversation.
I just sent him my scripts yesterday. Now I’ll wait and see.
All along he has been professional and available. I don’t have any complaints.

I have only good things to say about Marc H.
Marc has read two scripts of mine one of which he read both an early draft and a later draft. So that's three reads total. He also gave me feedback. Answered all emails promptly, often within minutes.
Although he has passed, he's left the door open for future submissions. Of all the people who have requested my scripts, Marc was the most responsive and helpful.
:)
It's a business.

Hey sc, glad to see you weren't blown away by Charley. Did you get hit by it at all?

I've seen good things said about Crescendo on every screenwriter's board I've visited.

It was a privilege talking to Marc today. After playing phone tag for a day, he persisted in returning my call by sending me an email stating when he was available. We had a wonderful conversation about the “biz” and he was quick to ask me about my projects. In fact, our discussion ended with another request.
So Marc has two of mine currently and I’m hoping the door will stay open but even if it doesn’t, he was so personal I know he’d receive my phone call anytime in the future.
Again, I thank you, Marc. It was great meeting you.
If you ever need to send a worn copy of BAMBI to someone, I have one! :D
Blessings,

Marc and Crescendo are well thought of by the messagebord community I have here at Ezboard. He is always welcome to post his announcements there (and he does). I remember him from Project Greenlight and how he was open to communicating with new writers and just having that privilege is a very big deal to the new writer.
Thank you, Marc, for keeping a door open.
