Would someone more knowledgeable than I, comment on querying an actor's agent, such as Jason Heyman, Eva's agent? I have a rom/com that would be perfect for her. I called Jason and the first thing he asked was if I have financing available. Of course I don't since I'm just trying to get this script to her and hope she likes it enough to attach herself to it.
So what does this mean? Should I have queried a literary agent at CAA instead of her agent like I did? Or would the lit agent tell me the same thing?
Please reply because I think I just made a wrong move here.

An agent is looking for you to "make an offer" --- you have to have money to ask a star to 'attach'. You can't just get a script to a star unless you know them, they want your script or if you have money to put the actress on hold... do you know how many times agents hear "my script is perfect for your star!" - A bazillion times...
They have to qualify your "query" like that with do you have developmental funds to hold my client or the full quote just to put her in the movie...
Sorry kid - that's just the way it works. Get a prod co, distribution company, angel investor, studio, etc. to buy into your film in some way. What's the budget of your movie? What's Eva's quote alone?... if she's perfect and you have money to hold her or offer her (with proof) then and only then the agent takes you seriously.

I figured I was being nieve. Thanks for the reality check.

I've heard that some stars ask for 50 grand just to read a script. So if you have 50 grand handy... :)

you need to find an actor who has their own production company
or a manager who can package a deal
i'm guessing that actors will only read a script if it comes from a reliable contact and not just we wannabees. but if you can find another way to get it to them than through their agent... what's the harm? can't lose for trying.

Definitely that is the best way to approach stars: their own production companies. Almost everyone has one these days... A lot of them are bullsh&t and don't mean much, but others are for real. Chicks like Drew Barrymore produce tons of films and have real power.
