So am I Repped or Not?

had a meeting with a manager and im not really sure if im repped or not. the words "i want to be your manager" was not said, and he has a boss that he wants to read the script, but he also said that even without the boss' okay, he wants to move forward with the project. we talked about what i can do for this partnership also and also talked about who would be good for the movie and that he'll make a list he thinks fit for the lead role and setup some meetings. also offered to hook me up with an agent he knows.

so he said we'll talk next week (also the boss is reading it this wkend) so im wondering uh am i repped or not?

It's strange, some managers aren't formal about officially offering to rep you. I met with my first manager several times without knowing if he was really my manager or just feeling me out for a really long time. I didn't know for sure until I had a script do well in the Nicholl and a bunch of managers contacted me and I asked him if I should send out scripts to them and he said "What the hell would you want two managers for?" So then I knew I had a manager...

At this point, it looks like this manager wants to "hip pocket" you, but it may change if the boss truly hates it, despite what he said.

(I don't consider myself repped...
I always figured if you didn't sign anything you're not repped. Like in Princess Bride where they said if you didn't say "I Do," you're not married... )

As far as I know, most legit managers won't have you sign anything.

To the OP: It sounds like he either wants to be your rep or hip-pocket you. I'd ask just to clarify. If you're going to enter a partnership (which is what a manager/client relationship should be) with him/her, you should feel comfortable enough to ask, "Does this mean I can tell my mom I have a manager now?" Either way, congrats! Sounds like at the least, your script has garnered a champion for itself.

Just be direct and ask, "so should I consider you my manager then?" or whatever. They like directness and you have every right to ask that question.

The whole signing a contract thing means nothing - i'm on 2nd manager and 2nd agency and i've never signed a thing nor was i asked to.

If he's hooking you up with an agent, then they are obviously gonna be signing you as a team.
