I need to know for my script. If someone gets a eviction notice do they have to get out then or do they go to court or what exactly is involved?

Basically, you have to stop paying rent for about six months or more before you come home and find your stuff in the street.

I lived in an apartment in DC and a couple of my neighbors were evicted. It was pretty sad.

The saddest part was that while they were off somewhere trying to find a place to stay, other people came by and helped themselves to their stuff.

The moral of the story is: If you can't afford to pay your rent, take your TV and your stereo over to your mom's house the night before.

My landlords are tougher here ... you have to have the rent in by the second... if its not there by the 6th you get a 3 day notice to vacate. In between the 2nd and the 5th if you pay its an additional $100.00 late charge.

I'm pretty sure the local laws dictate how quickly the landlord can react.

Most landlords would love to have the power "AKDrifter's" landlords have.

At least in DC and I think Philly and NYC this event is called a sidewalk sale.

I used to do security work in an apartment complex, so I know in my area(central Florida), evictions are handled as a civil/legal issue and are resolved by the county court system/Sheriff's Office. A Deputy or process server would post an eviction notice(that can be appealed within 7 business days). If no appeal is filed in the court, the Deputy Sheriff would come and post 72 hour then 24 hour notices. After that it's "GO" time! I saw a handful of evictions that went bad, but you gotta pay the rent! BTW: I'd check www.westlaw.com and/or the laws of the story's location to be true and correct.
