Has anyone ever had a development executive put together a beat sheet for you? I'm developing a spec script for a reputable company. I know that that's how execs secure EP credit for themselves, so I don't mind this person helping me re-work the script, but I was a bit surprised when this exec offered to send me his own beat sheet, even before I submitted mine. I saw that in his previous credit he claimed a "story by" credit. Is this normal?

Did you offer to send him yours? It'd save him some work.

I did. It's weird. He offered to send me his before he even had a chance to read my beats. I just don't know what to think. In a way I'm a bit insulted. But mostly, I'm worried that he may ask for a "story by" credit when I wrote the script on spec on my own.

I'm sure its just a DE making suggestions and nothing more than that, but...

If he wants to incorporate changes and take credit you have 3 choices.

1. Get lost, I'm taking it elsewhere.
2. Okay, lets do it.
3. I'm not comfortable about that, what other choices are there?

You still own the thing I assume.

I personally wouldn't get all worked up about it but I've never had anyone want to take credit for suggestions.

I guess they can take credit for writing the beat sheet though, lol.
