View Full Version : PJ's Script Co-operative

Well, I've been mulling over an idea for quite awhile, I won't say it's a workshop per se, but more like a co-operative. Quite frankly, I don't know if it will work or disintegrate into one big mess (which I need like a hole in the head), but if anyone wants more info, shoot me a PM.
My only criteria: this is not for the novice screenwriter. It is not to teach someone how to write their first screenplay. It is to make a screenplay the best it can be and get it repped and sold. Egos will be parked at the door. Membership will be limited.
The feedback I get on this will help me decide if it's a good idea and worth pursuing or if it should go the way of the Dodo. Clearly, I must be a glutton for punishment.
Note to skeptics: I am not out to steal anyone's screenplay or idea. I am not attaching myself to any screenplay as a producer or anything else. And it's free because I'm a dumbbell of epic proportions.

No you're not. You love films and writing and you care. I admire your effort. :)

I think it's a great idea.

Judging from the response thus far, everyone seems to think it is a pretty good idea, or think it's a good idea but still have reservations and want more details. I'm open to all thoughts/suggestions.

Sounds good. I used to be on Zoetrope and Trigger Street - T.S. was a dead loss but I got some good feedback on Zoetrope. I eventually quit because I just couldn't read any more crap - 80% of the people on that site couldn't write an English sentence if their lives depended on it.
So PJ - have you thought about the logistics? Where would it be based? Here? MSN? Its own website? Or just an informal email network? The organizational aspects might end up taking a little more of your time than you think... But I would certainly be interested.

Are you going to read scripts to decide who to invite?

I think it's a good idea PJ, but I would urge you to think about it a bit more carefully before you actually make a decision.
But then again, go for it!
Joaneasley's idea about the invitation process is a good one.

Still have to work out the logistics--we could do it in a AIM chat room or set up a community at a site like Yuku (which I am familiar with).
I don't have to read entire scripts---some people who want in, I've already read their work, others I'm not familiar with, prolly all I need are 10-15 pages.

So is it official - one of the requirements is to send you a sample of written material about 10-15 pages long? Any material or specifically the one we want to discuss with the co-operative?

Yep.

You might also want to limit the number of people, otherwise you're the den mother and overwhelmed at the children playing in the sandbox, I'm just saying, not trying to keep anyone out.

One thing has come up and I want to be very clear: this is not a co-writing venture of any kind. Your work remains yours free and clear. If the co-op gives you suggestions and you implement them and you go on to sell your script for a million bucks, it's all yours.

Guys,
I have set up a separate e-mail for the co-operative, so please, from now on, hit me up there: pjscriptcooperative at gmail.com
If you have already forwarded me your writing sample, no need to re-send, but anyone who PM'd me here about it, please, shoot me an e-mail at the gmail addy so I know if you're still interested in joining the coop. This way everything is in one place.
Thank you. You may continue on without me, now.

LATEST UPDATE: Whew! Finally cleared the decks and now starting to recoup from working straight 10-14 hour days since May 4th. My goal is to read all the samples I've gotten over the weekend and by this week coming up get this puppy up and running. Thank you for your patience.
LAST CALL: if you have not hit me at pjscriptcooperative at gmail.com and expressed your interest/sent me a sample (10-20 pages) do so NOW as it is my intent to lock the membership down by Sunday night.
