You're looking at a film, it's asking you to suspend disbelief way beyond reality, and you're just not getting it.
Maybe your idea of reality comes from movies, and you need a fix of real physics?
Found this great site, run by physics pro's, that takes a look at movie physics with a cold eye and a slide rule.
You can still make it spectacular, but you'll also make it real. And that's a good thing in screenwriting.
Has some entertaining reviews as well, you'll find out why you never liked A.I. among other things.
