What do you suppose the IRS would do if they became convinced you had significant resources you were hiding?

Sure, I could call'em -- if I want an audit. :)

Check the www.irs.gov, www.firstgov.gov, www.theadvicesquad.com, and/or the US Secret Service website for fraud, finance related crimes.

If convinced your return is intentionally wrong, then step one: freeze everything you have, accounts, paychecks, CC cards, safety box-if they can find it, and you cannot believe how fast they can do this! The key is 'intentional' as ordinary mistakes and screwups don't count for such drastic action. Many appeals have been battled over this issue, whether it was intentional and did they verify that in advance.

Ooo-ooo ...

I like the notion of freezing assets and such. Can use that to add extra complications to the situation (comedic). Thanx!

That kind of thing happened to my sister. Her husband completed the forms and she signed them; not realizing what he was lying about. He dies of a heart attack and the IRS comes after her for his screwy returns b/c her name was on the return too. It was a long battle and mess to fix. She still ended up owing the money.

She's now a firm believer in married couples filing separately.

I think a substory in "Say Anything" involved IRS agents tracking the chick's dad, right?

Some movie I saw in the 80s had that subplot.
