That script has been sitting unread in my script library for a long time...the trailer tempts me to read it.

It could be good...I see a few people in it who are real actors which make scenes all the more interesting...(von Sydow and Kingsley)

Read the book whenever it came out... not Lehane's best, but does have lots of twists and is creepy as hell... probably make a good movie. Trailer looks great. Scorsese's biggest movie to date is... the remake of CAPE FEAR. This looks like it has a chance to do as well as that, or better.

This looks kind of like 1408 where the guy is just crazy all along. Will watch anyways. Haha

Maybe a good film from Scorsese since Goodfellas

Maybe a good film from Scorsese since Goodfellas

That's the problem with being a genius like Scorsese ... you're constantly compared to yourself, instead of others. Goodfellas is indeed an all-time classic, and perhaps his output since then isn't quite as transcendent, but to say he hasn't made a good film since then ... Aviator, Gangs of New York, Casino, Departed to name a few ... if any other filmmaker had made these they would be their career highlights.

This trailer looks so good I only watched half of it, worried I was going to spoil the movie. Can't wait to see it.

You're right. I forgot The Aviator.

Agreed. Not every film by the likes of Scorsese can be a masterpiece, but they can be entertaining as long as they have his special mark (Marty's love for 1950s pop music).

Very strong trailer. Leo has been growing on me. I never got on the boat with him for Titanic way back in the day (No pun intended. Okay maybe a lil...) but Aviator, Blood Diamond, Departed even/kinda Gangs of New York his later roles have been pretty strong. And Jackie Earle Haley looks like he brought his creepy persona back from Watchmen, which is a good thing. He stole the show in that movie. Kingsley looks like he found a strong role too.

All around good stuff.

Max Von Sydow is in it, also. Pretty cool.

Has anyone read the script yet? I have it, but haven't gotten around to it yet. This trailer certainly motivates me to move it to the top of my reading list.

Any thoughts from anyone who has read it?

Interesting that "Watchmen" (both film and GN) had some elements from "Taxi Driver", which Scorsese directed. Haley ruled, but I like Patrick Wilson as Dan because I relate to him.

Shutter Island -- too ambitious.
Looks like a cross between a masterpiece and a flawed masterpiece.
Just like his last one -- Cape Fear. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIl5yccCOhA)

I also love that someone else loved that Max Von Sydow was in it. I saw him, and I was very pleasantly surprised. I love that guy.

Would any of you be this excited if this exact same trailer didn't have Scorsese's name attached?

Scorsese's an auteur and a visionary who I admire tremendously but this trailer looks depressingly generic.

I was going to ask the same question, as I share the same thoughts regarding it looking genereic, but you beat me to it.

Without Scorsese's name, I wouldn't be excited about the movie, but I'd still want to check it out. Generic movies aren't a problem for me.

me personally, i liked the trailer itself but the two reasons that get me excited is Leo and Martin and the fact this is outside the realm of what both have previously done and the fact they work great together.

i'm not sure what looks generic about the trailer, to me 99.9% of the rom-coms that come out looks generic and before going in you know how it's gonna end, but fans of the genre tell me they're not.

if anybody else were doing this, i think i'd wait until after the first weekend and ask around, but my hopes are that by having the two talented names attached (martin & leo) that they would avoid letting it turn out to be something that you expect.

Just read the book and was disappointed.

That said, I agree with Martel that it could end up being a pretty cool movie.

I think the world, characters and reversals might pop more on screen. Could be REALLY creepy on film.

Still, assuming it does pop on screen, I have no idea how to predict it's B.O. success. Seems like dicey waters out there for these types of films.

I would hate to be a Studio Exec making a decision on a film like this.

Read the script about a month ago and I thought it was amazing. Just continuously pulls the rug out from under you. Can't wait to see it.
