So the day before yesterday a rumor started going around town that Paramount could merge with either Uni or Sony. Par insiders are denying it, but it has spread. That would really suck.

Is that because there will be a buyer less, SB?

Yep. I don't think it's likely. I hope not.

I've read somewhere that Paramount was struggling financially lately... :(

Lesher is out...
Apparently, according to Movie-Line, another unconfirmed report from inside the studio notes that the entire remaining Vantage staff is out as well... looks like a developing story, and not a good one.

Yeah, it probably doesn't look good.
I am no insider by any means but I read on tracking b that Brad Weston was asked to move on a producing deal on the Paramount lot. Whatever that means.
EDIT: Lesher and Weston are moving on producing deals with the studio. Goodman new President.

That sucks. Wow, did we scoop Nikki Finke on the Par/Sony/Fox Home entertainment merger?!
Anyway, Vantage being shut down really does suck, and it also explains why the project that I had in there three weeks ago didn't sell even though Stodel claimed to love it!

I have a project set up at Vantage, which is now up in the air. If it goes into turnaround, we can take it out elswhere (since no one else has seen it). If Paramount decides to hold onto it, it's going to sit on a shelf until I'm old and grey. It's not often a writer hopes his script will go into turnaround...

The rumor is that they are trying to merge their home video division only. That makes sense given the horrible economy and that DVD sales are down 20%.
