Treatments

Does anyone write these any more? It seems they've fallen out of fashion in favor of just writing scripts. I've personally never used them, even though sometimes I've been put on the spot in the past to produce one based on a query. Does anyone feel they serve a purpose, or are they a just waste of time?

you will need to write treatments when a studio wants to know if they like your take on the idea you pitched them. especially/also when a few different writers are being considered for a particular assignment.

In the last two days I've been asked to provide a 3-4 page outline of my script from an agent and a 1 page outline of my script from a producer. The fact that they require different lengths for these outlines drives me crazy! I just spent hours doing a 3 page one and now I've got to get it down to one page - which we all know is the harder of the two.
