Hello people...

I must say you run a nice and clean board here. I am glad to have found it, as it has helped me with many topics thus far.

Ok...in my screenplay I have to create tension between the US and Russia. I was curious if there was anyone out there that is familiar with government and foreign policy to help me sort out my ideas.

Thanks either way...

Ben (rainboy)

Welcome to the board, Ben.

I'm no foreign policy expert, but reading the newspapers ought to give you some ideas. How about flying a commercial airliner across Russian air space to save flight time? Call it Flight 007 to add implication that it might actually be a spy mission.

Hmmm.

If this is the current day we are talking about then your conflict is more realistically related to economics, crime of the economics of crime...
The cold war is over, long live the new cold war. And it is all about cold cash.

The story take place a few years in the future...

My problem is I want to create some sort of tension bewteen the US and russia without it getting too complicated. Since it is not the basis of the story I don't want to get into too much detail. Plus, in the end the US and Russia are going to come together to fight a common enemy so it can't be anything too serious or unforgiveable, just enough to create a tension point for the audience.

I believe Frederick Forsythe's thriller novel ICON deals with Russia in the not too distant future. You might find something there.

Bill, is that "Hmmm" for the reason I think it is?

Nem, old boy. Whatever could you mean? Try my email for non-relevant messaging. Important not to mess up a thread.

Try the WGA site, they have all kinds of research links. You can find a link through the links section on this board.

It's a long story, Ben. Don't let it distract you. Nemesis is referring to something from a long, long time ago that had to do with another guy named "Ben something". There will be a lot of sidebars to postings on this board. We are a frivolous bunch. Hope you don't mind.

Nothing Bill, nothing at all... I'll keep in mind your e-mail address though if anything "non-relevent" comes up. Rainboy, its not a "newbie" thing at all. Bill mentioned 007 and spies which recalled a recent discussion we had about secret identities.
