The film is terrible. Did anybody actually like this film?
I suppose the stars all wanted in because the Godfather was such a big hit.

When I am stuck writing or find myself intimidated by the whole process, I will call to mind the worst moments of Godfather 2, take heart and persevere.

I'm not sure I understand what you guys are talking about. Godfather 2 is one of my favorite movies of all time.
It's the one with the DeNiro timeline of Vito as a kid. It's the one where Kay gets shut out and Fredo gets killed, for God's sake.
It's ranked number 3 in IMDB's top 250 movies of all time.
Biohazard has it right - you must be mixing up 2 with 3.

I know 3 is bad.
I am afraid I am not mixed up about this. I genuinely felt the film sucked. (The De Niro story was good, I admit, but it didn't save the film.)
I am glad you enjoyed it though! :)

I fear that you may be in a minority of one over "Godfather II", generally considered a masterpiece and, in terms of character work, superior to its predecessor.

I don't hate. I like it. But no more than like. I found the whole young Vito flashback a big distraction...didn't care for the De Niro/Kirby parts at all. Duvall, Pacino and Keaton...those parts were all well done and interesting.
Yes I know how the flashbacks mesh with the Michael taking over the business era, theme and allegory...I just was never interested in the flashback parts.

Yeah, but IMDB also has Shawshank at #1, and that's not even the best film of 1994.
Their list is laughable.

Oh, God! Don't say I am the only one who doesn't like it...

It's no big deal yeehi. I'm usually in a tiny minority on Pulp Fiction...I just don't see anything appealing or interesting in that film, but IMBd voters seem to think it is among the greatest things ever.

I LOVED Godfather II. It's one of those movies that always seems to be on TV and I'll tune in every time no matter how far along it is when I catch it. But I'm right there with R.O.T. re: Pulp Fiction. I never understood why that movie was so popular or critically acclaimed. Another movie that everyone seemed to love that made me scratch my head was No Country for Old Men.

That's a bit harsh. It's a great list. I'm actually trying to go through it now and watch as many movies as I can. And Shawshank is an amazing movie.
You should try making your own list, it could be a fun exercise - what's your top five?

I want to get in on this.
Once Upon a Time in the West
2001: A Space Odyssey
Fitzcarraldo
Days of Heaven
The Hustler
Honorable mentions (no order):
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Aguirre: The Wrath of God
The Seven Samurai
Dersu Uzala
Ikiru
The Thing
Halloween
La Jetee
Goodfellas
Raging Bull
The Shining
Barry Lyndon
Solaris
Come and See
Le Samourai
The Elephant Man
I think I'll just stop there. I've rated about 160 movies a 10 on IMDB. I've rated about 300 a 9. So about 450 in total. Add on another 50 or so that I love to death but would never rate a 9 or 10 and you can call that list of 500 my favorite movies.

Shawshank Redemption
Miller's Crossing
Pulp Fiction
Goodfellas
Honorable mentions:
The Matrix (only the first one)
L.A. Confidential
Modern Times
Sin City (i know i know, what can I say, just love it)
I'm sure there's a ton more and I can't figure out the best way to rank these.

It's a damn good film, probably my favourite of '94.
A well-written piece of cinema. :)

That was excellent. I've now changed my mind about The Godfather.
"It insists upon itself." I will now use that in my everyday conversation. That, and, "I loved the Money Pit. That is my answer to that statement."
I thought it might be fun to list the films mentioned in this thread that I haven't seen.

I thought Godfather II wasn't all that bad. It was okay. Nothing to get too excited over. Now Godfather III...I feel asleep during the first thirty minutes of it. Pretty boring.
