I was just walking around NYC, come home to find the news that Hughes died doing the same thing today. So depressing. We all grew up on his movies.

The guy was a screenwriting genius. I read a quote on CNN by Steve Martin..He said Planes, Tranes, and Automobiles was the best script he had read. He asked John Hughes how long did it take him to write...John replied OVER THE WEEKEND...

He had his pulse on growing up in the 80's and his films reflected my life pretty closely. He will be missed. RIP.

Amen, brother-in-prose. When you look at the works of Kevin Smith, Seth Rogen (co-wrote "Drillbitt Taylor" with the man, under his pseudonym, Edmond Dantes), Judd Apatow and Diablo Cody, there's some homages to Hughes. Hell, one of my specs has some elements.

First Budd Schulberg (love "A Face In the Crowd") and John Hughes.:(
