No, this is not an early April Fool’s Day prank. Done Deal Pro is actually here: www.donedealpro.com (http://www.donedealpro.com). The new site describes what it offers, but I wanted to post some information here and answer any questions you might have. Here is a basic rundown…

Done Deal Pro offers a sophisticated searchable database of 5,700+ deals by title, writer, representation, company, genre, date, and more, dating back to September 1997. For individual sales listings, users can click on the agency, management firm, law firm, and company names (if listed with the deal) for detailed contact information. Our new site/database also includes over 1,100 production companies along with more than 520 agencies, management firms, and entertainment law firms. In addition to contact information, listings include companies’ interests (e.g., preferred genres), submission policies, and type of material accepted, as well as staff member names. Done Deal Pro will also provide development-related industry news and interviews. Also, because the site is database driven, individual companies are able to update their listings (address, staff changes, credits, etc.) as need be.

Though access to most of Done Deal Pro’s content is fee based, we are offering the contest listings for free and have moved all of our information to the new site (a link to Done Deal Pro appears on the old contest page). As with company listings, contests can update their information on their own. Also, visitors can search contests by title, description, entry fee, deadlines, and more. We also offer Contest Deadline Alerts on our front page, as well as listings for the six newest contests entered into our database in the contest section.

Who is this new site for? Anyone is welcome to subscribe, but Done Deal Pro is designed primarily for industry professionals (agents, managers, lawyers, and development executives) and advanced screenwriters. By “advanced screenwriters” we mean those who have written a few scripts and are looking to aggressively start marketing them, and who want to be able to run reports on what material has sold to which companies and the particulars of the deals.

Does the new site have a message board? Yes, but it is not the focus of Done Deal Pro. And because the new community will be smaller, there will likely not be much discussion in the forums, particularly early on. Also, the forums will be treated as a privilege that will be lost if the guidelines are ignored.

Will Done Deal change? For the most part, our current site will remain as is (i.e., free) and will be updated as usual. As noted above, contests listings will now be found on the new site. Also, our Sales Archives will now include current year deals along with the previous three years’ worth, so visitors will have access to three to four years of sales information.

The regular yearly subscription and renewal price for the Done Deal Pro is $49.95. But as a “thank you” to our loyal visitors and to kick off the grand opening of our new sister site, for the first month we are offering a year’s subscription for $29.95. (We feel this will be a great and fair way to open the site as we make any additional tweaks or changes that might be needed during our first couple of weeks.)

If you have any concerns or questions about the site that you would rather not ask publicly, feel free to write me directly.

Thanks, and we look forward to providing the best service we can for both sites.

Concerning the submission policies of agents, managers, and production companies:

Does the data base indicate which DO and DO NOT accept unsolicited queries?
If yes, by mail and email?
If by email, is the email address listed?

What is the percentage (just a quick guess) do accept unsolicited email queries?

Yes. We have the info available for each type of "company" as to their submission policies - yes, no or email, letter, phone, etc.

BUT... since we're just opening we don't know what any and all will do. For our listings the default is "no" since most companies aren't generally very open and say that anyway as a policy. The majority of the companies that our site covers (in terms of deals) are fairly big players who don't openly take in queries. Since we're not normally covering as much the smaller companies that are more open, there are not a lot of them listed in our database.

As we go along and more & more industry folks check us out though, hopefully they will update our database personally with their policies. We've done our best so far to indicate all we could.

And to answer your last question... For now we have a very small percentage of "yes" answers. While we've been working on getting the site going I've solicited different people that I'm in contact with to post their companies info & policies. The ones that I have were very generous to do so. We'll push for more and spread the word as we go. So to be fair and honest to all, at this point don't just sign up expecting to find a bunch of "yes" companies looking to hear from writers via email or mail. Maybe later on. :)

Fantastic, and about time.

Will DD-Classic's One-on-One return to non-ezsupporter status, to help mitigate the cost of the new site?

"One on One" will stay as is for now, if not forever. It helps keep things and all sides/opinions separate. There are those I'm sure who still don't care for it and some who do. So this way no one can complain too much about being able to discuss various things or seeing them discussed.

Besides there are plenty of other boards for people to get in trouble on or cause trouble on. :D

Do you want/expect registered users of our current message board to subscribe to the pro website with a different username and password? Don't care?

When will this special price first-year kick-off subscription promotion expire? :D

Thanks!

Peak,

The only thing we suggest is that you pick as "appropriate"/professional of a name as possible since we might be seeing more industry professionals using that board down the road than this one. But it's up to you, for the most part, what name you choose.

And the discount will probably run for about six weeks at most. We're trying to give everyone as much opportunity as possible to sign up for that price before switching to our regular suscription rate.

In the next couple of weeks we are going to end the sign up special discount of $29.95 for a year, just so everyone knows.

If you have any questions about the site/service feel free to ask here. That's fine. I'll be glad to do my best to answer.

What's the price going to be after that?

Also, did we ever get a definitive answer re the 10% AAA discount?

Thnx,

Can you post a screencap of a production company listing for us, Will? I asked you a question regarding this information a while ago (to which you kindly and quickly replied to...) but would love to see the layout and information you have.

Please blur numbers and names if you wish, so as not to give people a "freebie."

Thanks, man....

We might offer a slightly lower price than listed to try to help everyone out -- i.e. second thoughts on the regular subscription price. Either way the discounted price we are offering now will never happen again as far as we are concerned. It's a one time shot. And no approvals from AAA to offer a discount.

Also Mac, no problem. Here is an example of a Production Company (http://www.scriptsales.com/ProductionCompany.jpg) listing to give you a general idea of how they are listed.

And as noted above we will look to add more info over time on various companies and also try to get as many companies as we can to submit their contact info, query policies, etc. on their own.

And since the question about what we list and all has come up let me let everyone know what I've already told a few folks.

We're not the Hollywood Creative Directory or Baseline/Studio Systems, etc. We don't have a big staff of people working 40 hours a week to provide all they do; but then that's one of the main reasons we're not charging the monthly/yearly fees they charge.

We set this up so we could offer all the info we can in the best possible database we could design for a fair price to both "sides." We want and need to cover our expenses but we also want to keep it affordable since we know money can be very tight for writers. Our goal is to provide a useful resource that offers various features along with more detailed contact info, great search capabilities, handy features like MY DEALS, etc. for a reasonable rate.

Some may consider us the "lite" version of the big boys, and that's fine. But we'll definitely do our best to include everything possible. :D

Reddery,

We're not set up to use PayPal. Our system is only designed to work with VeriSign.
